Did anyone watch this feud in WCW as it happened? I was watching some WCW Bret Hart and his brawl with Sting on Youtube the other day and I'm kicking myself for not making an effort to follow WCW at the time... witnessing the embodiment of WWF's new generation era interact with the embodiment of WCW is incredible from the little I've seen. Bret is great as the prickish heel and Wolfpac Sting maintains the hero status he's known for... something about a feud between these two has an aura about it that I wouldn't have felt from say, Goldberg vs. Steve Austin. It's just two great workers with great characters who represented so much to different promotions going to war...
That said, was Bret/Sting a single feud or was it more like a series of encounters throughout Bret's tenure in WCW? Also, what were your thoughts on it? Did it meet expectations? Would you have changed anything about how it was booked? Favorite moments and matches? Etc.

I never followed WCW at the time, but I am getting alot more familiar and I think they had a small feud for the US titles and a few matches here and there but nothing big.

DDP & Bret Hart were in the midst of a lengthy feud in the latter part of '98, in which they swapped the U.S. Title back and forth several times. But when DDP's team won WarGames, he got a World Title shot for Halloween Havoc, and so Sting was basically a filler feud for Hart because he went right back to feuding with DDP after the match.
They did face off again at Mayhem 1999, but that was part of the World Title Tournament aka no buildup or storyline to it.

Sounds like they never really capitalized on it... for shame.

Sounds like they never really capitalized on it... for shame. They never really did, which sucked ass for those of us that watched WCW quite a bit.

Sounds like they never really capitalized on it... for shame. No they didn't. I don't even recall there being that many matches between the two. Theres the ever so popular "hardcore match'' or w/e that they had backstage but that was about it actually. I don't even recall exactly why they were fighting in the first place! Thats a real shame. I remember being so excited to see these two square off, only for it to not be memorable at all, to the point that I don't even know what they were fighting for. WCW wasted Bret Hart.

Sting/Warrior vs Hogan/Hart happend on Nitro right before Halloween Havoc 1998. Also after the Hart/Sting match at Havoc Sting didnt come back until March 1999.

Sounds like they never really capitalized on it... for shame. No, WCW did little to capitalize on this potentially historic feud. Back in 1994 - 1996 Bret Hart vs. Sting was a fantasy match that i truly thougt would never happen. Once Bret headed to WCW i wait with anticipation until Bret and Sting would feud or at least have a historic match. Sadly, WCW delivered much like WWF did with Ric Flair and Hulk Hogan match. This match could have easily main evented Starrcade.

If hyped up correctly, Bret Hart vs Sting couldve been huge. Instead wcw treated it as just another midcard feud.

It was a great feud in the making, but it seemed like it was cut really short.

Yeah WCW was ing up a lot towards the end, but I think if Bischoff and his company had of picked them up they would have been ok.
