man was he like the epitome of 1998 besides Austin and such
I loved him back then and I thought his character was great from late 97 to the end of 98.
In 1999 I really didnt enjoy him and you could tell he wasnt either but regardless. 1998 was the year of the Taker in my books.

tbh, I liked the 1999 stuff more. I thought in 1997/1998 he was turning more human, cutting more promos, his hair was turning blond/redish ala ABA, he sometimes wore regular clothing to the ring.
In 1999, he had all those cool segmants with the Sacrifycing (sp?), his Ministry, and his big feud with Ausitn.

'98 Taker was my favorite era of his by far. The look, standing up to Kane, everything went perfect.

'98 Taker was my favorite era of his by far. The look, standing up to Kane, everything went perfect. I agree. If only he was that cool today. The moment when he came back on the coffin table, and then accepted Kane's challenge was amazing. If only he had the secret head mic now.

1998 was awesome - so many different facets to the undertakers otherwise unknown personality = fighting his own brother, then turning slowly to the dark side - eventually turning evil and forming the ministry

I completely agree with most everything said thus far; 1998 was probably my favorite year overall for the Undertaker character.
Incredible matches throughout the year with the likes of HBK, Kane, Mankind, and Stone Cold as well as one of the greatest feuds of the Attitude era with his brother Kane. I also loved the Undertaker's heel turn with the Ministry, but the transformation into the American Bad Ass definitely signaled the end of the Undertaker, for me at least, as it just hasn't been the same since returning four years ago.

1998 is was a HUGE year for The Taker. I still think his promo he did when he returned to challenge Kane is one of the best ever. It was so amazingly done, and the emotion was all there. He had such a great year for sure. And who could forget the amazingly hyped match he had with Stone Cold? Thats the most brilliantly hyped match I've probably ever seen. If not the most, its right up there.
1999 wasn't bad, but to me, 98' was the year that he really shined for an entire year.

98 was great for Undertaker, but 99 maked he seem more satanic.
