Wow. Thank God those plans never came to pass. That would've been brutal for sure.

Despite Ludvig Borga's lack of charisma and talent, he would've been a very good heel champion in that era because of his gimmick. At the time, a lot of the foreign workers coming in to the company were being portrayed as the "evil foreigner" such as Yokozuna.
Borga was intensely hated by the fans, especially since he destroyed Tatanka and gave him his first TV loss. If the WWF pushed Lex Luger the right way, he could've been the missile that took out the Finnish powerhouse. Even though I agree that Borga and Luger were both pretty bad when it comes to in-ring talent, I think a Luger-Borga title feud would've been pretty cool.
Hell, I thought the Luger-Yokozuna title feud was cool, the Lex Express was such an awesome concept but I don't think Luger was the right man for that push.

Yes, surprisingly, it is true from what I've read in the past. Borga was actually going to main event at the time but he came down with a serious injury, I want to say somewhere in his foot, that prevented it from happening. I'd imagine it would have gone down as a Luger/Borga feud for the title (having Luger beat Yoko by that point) or possibly even Borga/Taker as horrible as that sounds. I never saw anything positive in the guy and in many ways, his injury saved us from some terrible main events that were sure to follow his Heavyweight title push.

What really irks me is the fact that they wasted Tatanka's 2-year undefeated streak on a guy who wouldn't even be around 3 months later.
Yup, still pissed.

Borga was perfect for WWE in those days, he was a big muscular dude & he had the much loved heel foreigner gimmick. Plus with Lex on top as the big defender of America it would have been easy to get the crowd behind it Would have sucked for match quality but I reckon would have drawn money

But to stay on topic, I don't think Borga was around long enough for them to strongly consider him for a title run. I would have said IC title for sure but not Heavyweight.

I was just looking at some old videos of Borga, anyone else think he looks like a cross between Finlay and Brock Lesnar?

I was just looking at some old videos of Borga, anyone else think he looks like a cross between Finlay and Brock Lesnar? ^ Yes I do! The story behind the proposed Ludvig Borga title reign was (from what I've heard/read): - Yokozuna was supposed to drop the title to Undertaker at the Rumble in the Casket Match because WWF wanted Yoko to drop some weight. From there Borga would've defeated Undertaker and headed to WM as the champion. Luger was scheduled to be the sole Rumble winner. At WM X, Luger would've defeated Borga for the title. - However, Undertaker had health problems and Borga damaged his ankle along the way and add in Luger wasn't as over as WWF would've liked him to have been. Thus Yoko kep the title, and took out the Undertaker to allow him to recover. Bret and Luger co-won the Rumble. Borga was completed whited out from the plans.

man..1993 and early 94 was a messed up time for wwf..first hogan refused to drop the title to bret..i would have loved to have seen that match at that time..luger supposedly told people in a bar about him winning the title prematurely.and that idea was scrapped...dont know how much of that is true..
