Royce Gracie has been wanting a second shot at Matt Hughes ever since Hughes eviscerated him in 2006 at UFC 60. And by Gracie's way of thinking, what better way to end his career than to face Hughes in Gracie's own home country of Brazil at UFC 134.
Well, according to an article released today on ufc.com, that isn't going to happen. Per the report on ufc.com, Matt Hughes will be facing Diego Sanchez at a yet to be announced event sometime this fall.
Since returning to the UFC's welterweight division after a failed lightweight championship shot in 2009, Sanchez has gone 2-1 in his second run as a UFC welterweight. Sanchez is coming off of consecutive Fight of the Night victories over Paulo thiago and Martin Kampmann.
Matt Hughes' future has been the subject of much speculation since being knocked out a mere 21 seconds into his most recent fight, a loss to BJ Penn at UFC 123 in Auburn Hills, Michigan.

Hughes, for sure. I'm not concerned after his last fight. King Kong would have been knocked out had he been facing BJ that night. BJ just looked pissed and ready to knock someone the out.

great fight. But I too think Hughes wrestling will be too much for Diego....
plus I like 'The Nightmare' WAY more than 'The Dream'.....

Hughes is gonna win. That's a shame, because I'm a fan of Sanchez, but this isn't a good fight for him.

I'm a fan of both too, but Hughes is something else...Sanchez is great, and has all the tools to beat Hughes, but I don't see it happening...

Wow.
I'm the only one who sees Sanchez taking this handily, then?

Wow. I'm the only one who sees Sanchez taking this handily, then? I don't know why a lot of peeps are saying Hughes will win easily... I see it as a 50/50 fight - I'd probably slightly favor Sanchez if I had to pick.

Sanchez is a toss-up. The old Sanchez who was running through motherf***ers would beat Hughes of today...but this Sanches we have now? I don't know.

I hope Hughes wins, but I don't see it being an easy fight.

I hope Hughes wins, but I don't see it being an easy fight. My sentiments exactly. I see Diego trying to push the pace and make it a war. This should be a sick fight, hopefully Hughes can take it though!

Royce would just get slaughtered again. Then again, he's now even older.
