It's tough but my favorite was Jesse Ventura. He always had something terrible to say about a face. Though Bobby is a close second. Kind of sad that they've pretty much fazed the heel commentator out.

Ventura always ssounded boring and just ugh...
Lawler was great at cracking jokes, playing off of J.R's face status

Heenan hands down! I think Jerry lawler used to try emulate his style when he was a heel commentator

Bobby Heenan all the way. However, all three were very good when they were on their game.
Ventura and Heenan took different approaches. Ventura was more of a jerk heel, who came across like a tough guy. What I remember most about his commentary was that he always justified heel behavior by pointing out when the babyfaces broke the rules or acted like jerks. I thought that was clever because as a viewer, you almost had to see his point, even though you hated to agree with Ventura.
Heenan obviously used lots of humor, but he never really tried to convince you that the babyfaces weren't true "good guys" like Ventura did.

Definitely Hennan, although Lawler was great as the Corporate ass-kisser.

Heenan all the way. He was a jerk, but he was funny. In the WCW days he was always cracking me up. Him Tony and Mike. It was awesome. He was kind of a tweener though at that point.

Heenan is the gold standard for color commentary. The reactions he would get from crowds when he walked out said it all. All he had to do was start walking to the announce booth and the "weasel" chants would start. You can hear them all over the place during the WCW days.
Lawler is a complete cop out and stooge. His heel commentary was good but the moment that the WWF started referring to breasts as "puppies" Lawler became unbearable.

Oh my... this may possibly be the hardest question i have had to answer on this site. Well done
I seriously dont think i cant choose between ventura and boobs.
King is nowhere near the mark, maybe because he appeals to a younger crowd (minus the reference to breasts whenever possible) and i am an adult now so i can read between the lines when watching classic wwf tapes
Ventura set the standard, he and Monsoon were awesome.. and i really, really mean that. Bobby brought (like stated) a new approach to the table. Slightly verged on the line of racism, ever so slightly, with his 'digs' at any wrestle from a different country (providing they were face). Although, WWE on a whole doesnt really shy away from racism to be fair.
Both Ventura and Bobby were amazing, sorry i cant pick, so i wont.
Great question though

I had to go with Hennan, I just always found him the more entertaining cause he played for laughs.

Heenan was definitely the best... Though he is closely followed by Ventura, Heyman and Cornette.
I really love Jesse, it makes me sad every time I watch a WWE dvd where they took his voice off of it... It took away so much, especially when Schiavone was the other commentator, he's so poor when all you're hearing is him. So much was reacting from what Jesse said.
Lawler was great in his day, but once he was no longer fully heel, it started going downhill.
I know I'm forgetting someone I really liked, but these guys were awesome.

i like Ventura he was serious in his comments. the brain was great but more for a laugh and lawler follows that.

You just incely summed up my reason for picking Ventura. I still to this day feel Ventura and Monsoon were the best commentary team. 2nd would Monsoon and Heenan. Ventura was just a great heel and IMO keep things real and believeable.

Ventura by a mile. He has a true knack for it and easily adjust to whoever he was sitting by to get a real sense for chemistry.
Hennan was decent but made a lot of mistakes and he was also a face commentator too for WCW.
