Are you serious? Why would they show the figure, pull it and then release it as an internet exclusive? Wouldn't they have just kept Punk in the Elite set if they were going to release it? They didn't do this to generate hype, Jesus. People who buy the figure aren't buying it because ZOMG IT WAZ CANCELED!1@ they're buying it because they want the figure.
They didn't 'pull' it. They always planned on having it as an exclusive.
They need something to excite fans into buying more figures.
It's 'I can't have it so I want it more.'
And no chance a few people on here got them to release the figure. Because if the WWE didn't want it released, they wouldn't be swayed by some people on an internet forum.
I'd say 90% of the people who will buy this figure are members on this board, so why is it so ridiculous to think that Mattel would listen to people on here? Do you really think an 8-year-old kid who shops at Toys R' Us is going to know how to buy this figure? Mass-releasing a figure worldwide is different from making 5,000 and selling them exclusively through a US-based website. Limiting the figure to 'X' number of pieces and charging more money for it when Mattel knows there's an interest in people wanting the figure is what would sway the WWE to change their mind. The almighty dollar is what it's all about.
I just think there's way too much thought going into this. Mattel didn't do this for the exclusive Kane and Jakks never did this for any of the countless exclusives they released over the years.
