I looked at the list someone posted of "superstars" that do not have figures so far and it made me a little sleepy. How many of these guys will we even remember in 5-10 years. The only guy that seems legit and worthy of respect is Del Rio for his pre-WWE years. As long as Mattel doesn't announce they plan to save money by not painting the back of tights, I will keep buying.

There are usually two basic series' that come out about a month apart from each other so I wouldn't be surprised if we get protos for Basic 12 soon if it is to be released for June or even July. I have a hard time believing that Basic Series 11 will be the only Basic series released this Summer.

I just want those Rockers they showed us, hopefully in Legends 7. I pray the line makes it to then.

As long as Mattel doesn't announce they plan to save money by not painting the back of tights, I will keep buying. I dont buy action figures so in 10 years I can say "man I remember him so well'. New characters drive my collection, I'm not someone who wants a million repaints of the same guy, 3-4 is fine, I want brand new characters-regardless if they're on TV every week or not. They're still on the roster and are worthy of having a figure. I think most will agree with me, and those that don't simply won't buy figures of these guys when they come out. 1 per case is the way to go on the lesser known superstars, and thankfully Mattel can do that. There's got to be an equal balance and I think Mattel has done that well weighting their series with veterans and new releases. And DelRio I expect in Basic 12 considering we saw his proto last year. So we'll be getting him soon enough!

This is just my opinion, but...
I think the lack of news may be due to Mattel reviewing it's business model for the WWE line. Maybe they had their designers only design a few items before the higher-ups/money people decided how to restructure the line. If they put a big temporary, restructuring halt on production, then the design team probably doesn't have a lot to show off because they don't know what lines are coming out.
Mattel obviously has great people who design the figures/packaging, but it seems like the decision makers/toy line outreach people leave something to be desired. I say that because... how do you mess up a line like WWE that will sell regardless of the economy? They failed on the legends, entrance greats, and a few other items. Maybe some personnnel changes are taking place?
I hate to speculate, but it wouldn't surprise me. If anyone from mattel does read this... I love the line, but clearly there are some issues. Seems like... unfortunately... the collectors are the ones who end up losing. Good luck to those guys... maybe as the economy gets better things will turn around.

Terra Ryzing, I hope I didn't disrespect you. I referred to the lists only as an example of who is left on the current roster. I'm sure (I should say know) I will buy everyone of those guys. Heck, I even have both Wade Barretts and I'm still not particularly fond of him, although that could change. A lot of toy collecting, for me, is about nostalgia, which is why I'm still buying GI Joes, Transformers, Star Wars etc. Right now I'm slowly putting together a Hasbro WWF collection and I wonder how I'll remember the current WWE roster. Will I ask myself. "Who are these guys and why did I buy them?"

Now seeing this post the 10 years thing makes a lot more sense.

People didn't like it when the reps got too honest about Legends sales though. Can't blame the Mattel folks for taking a break. Exactly. The way some people were acting was just straight up immature. I feel like this thread is already going to head in that direction because some members seem to think Mattel "owes" them something. I miss the days when you had no idea who was going to be in what series until you saw the actual figures on the shelves. Now we see everything a year ahead of time it seems like. I miss those days too. It'd be awesome to just walk into a store now and find something totally new. I guess that happens on occasion, like when people have been finding Rumblers series 3. Sometimes, when we see prototype images and MOC images and insider videos way in advance, I feel kinda bored of a figure by the time I get it. But I still keep looking at all of those things! Yeah it kinda sucks not knowing what's on the horizon, but its also kind of nice to get a breather to catch up on what's already out there. Things were being shot out of the cannon so fast for a couple of months that it was hard to stay on top of it all and keep an eye on every pre-order and exclusive and so on that was being announced nearly weekly. So for me,I'm just getting caught up and by the time I do I'm sure there will be a dozen new pre-orders/lineups/exclusives etc,to drive me nuts through the Fall. I agree with this, I'm still blowing tons of money on these figures trying to catch up. Elite 9, Legends 6, Basic 11, TLC, none of these are in my hands yet. People talk about the lack of "news" but I've got a hell of a lot of figures to catch up on. Heck, I still need a basic Chris Masters! And I don't have any of the All-Stars figures yet. i know i keep banging on about it, but a good start would be to put together a massive official legends survey, filled with hundreds of superstars names accross all eras, promotions and fame-levels. more than anything else, that would give mattel a decent idea as to the demand for certain names in the legends line and how many per case to make. It wouldn't really though. We are a small part of the market. If we were indicative of how well a figure would do, then Legends Ricky Steamboat and Defining Moments Randy Savage would be the hardest to find figures in the world. And, from what I understand, they didn't exactly fly off shelves. They should At Least Give us the names of the people in the next new sets but wait for SDCC for prototypes I'm fairly sure we'll see SummerSlam Heritage and Basic 12 and Two-Packs 12 before SDCC anyway. They'll be due to come in stock on RSC around the time of the con, so protos will be before that. Unless they're slowing down the release schedule. Anyone know if there are other toy lines that produce several new waves of figures every month constantly the way wrestling lines do? Every two months we get: 1-2 series of basic figures. A PPV series. An Elite series. 1-2 series of Two-Packs. And then a Legends set about every 3-4 months or so.

I actually prefer knowing what we are getting ahead of time, either by prototypes or by line-ups. It's easier to budget my funds and figure out how much I will need to buy new figures in the future.

They want to sell more then maybe they can get stores to keep new product in stock... my TRU's are still flooded with Wrestlemania figures as well as old tag team series (such as the first dibiasi/Rhodes)
Some of the legends serires never made it to some stores... i'm not huge on ordering online however I almost have to.
I go to target all i find are 5 different versions of John Cena or Flex Force, I go to walmart all they have are their Wrestlemania figures half the time....

Mattel people have said the Legends line is doing horribly, but everything we've heard about total figure sales has been good news.

They really just mentioned Legends sales weren't as high as they had hoped but they would try to come up with ways to help the line. Some of us (me too) were a little disappointed to hear that.

We could just make up news. Legends series 7 has been dubbed "They Might Be Figures" and includes; Particle Man, Universe Man, Person Man, and Triangle Man. There'll be a variant Person Man which actually comes packaged in the garbage can accessory. You are awesome <3

I noticed a lot sites have a monthly "Ask Mattel". Board members suggest a question, then the mods or whoever runs the site selects 5 questions to submit to Mattel. I know Mattel does this for He-Man and DC. Will they do it for WWE? Can we come up with 5 good questions a month, excluding things like, "who's going to be in this wave or that wave?".

Yes, some sites do have WWE questions answered. I am quite suprised they never started that here, to be honest, with a WWE only Q&A. And for the record, they do them every first and fifteenth of the month. Questions are submitted about 3 weeks ahead of the time they will be answered.

I have always thought Mattel's lack of info about lines a bit baffling. I always liked how McFarlane toys would do things, they would announce lineups, then about 2 months before the figures come out, they show the pictures of what they look like. That way they get 2 news stories out of each line.
Mattel has always waited to announce lineups and show the figures at the same time, which means that we don't get news as often. I never understood why.
And Mattel has always stated that the majority of their announcements would be at Toy Fair and then at SDCC, so I don't expect any news between now and the end of July. Although if memory serves, they did have some announcements at Ringsidefest at the end of October. That made announcements at the end of July at SDCC, then 3 months later at Ringside Fest, then 3 and a half months later at Toy Fair, then only 5 and a half months later at SDCC again. So really, this gap is only a couple months longer than the other times of the year. news.
