Some have been talking about Mattel's website showing potential future releases, and someone online has posted proto shots of Arn Anderson. In the midst of all this, I think it's appropriate to discuss the direction of the line.
These line ups were certainly picked before the line was in mortal danger, therefore it could be years --if ever-- before some are released. But if they are, aren't these the same caliber of legends that have stalled the line up to this point?
Many have stated that we need Diesel, Bret Hart, HBK, classic Undertaker, etc. I think if Mattel wants success, they better wait until they can produce some high profile legends who will sell at retail and not just on ringside. I don't mean to reignite a debate about who is truly legendary and who isn't, but the fact is guys like Tully Blanchard did not leave lasting impressions in many people's minds. Anyway, here is the list below of guys I've heard about. Only Bret Hart, Million Dollar Man, and Rocker Shawn seems like surefire winners; therefore, even if we need to wait until November or so, I think Mattel should wait to restart the line until they can inject some more true star power.
Bret Hart, Diamond Dallas Page, Magnum TA, King Kong Bundy, Million Dollar Man, Rikishi, Farooq, Honky Tonk Man, Papa Shango, JYD, Arn Anderson, Tully Blanchard, Rocker Shawn Michaels, Rocker Marty Jannetty.

The legends line still has a lot of potential. I don't know why they'd end it. Who speculates that it's ending? A source from Mattel or Wfigs?

Because Bill from Mattel came on this very message board and said "sells are terrible" and the most recent line is out (online) yet we have no word about the next series. Not even any official names, let alone protos or MOCs. I'd say that equates to "mortal danger."

I dont think its in danger, Sales are terrible more or less because of Mattels Distribution and not because of the figures themselves.
I really think going down to Four in a series isnt a great move
I think they should keep it at Six per series, but spread the Legends out a bit more, maybe twice a year, instead of four times a year.
Plus I think they need to always have on Marquee guy, maybe a tag team, two less popular legends, and a repaint of some sorts
for example
Marquee - Honkytonk Man Tag Team - Brain Busters Less popular - Hercules Hernandez Less Popular - Leaping Lanny Poffo with Frisbee Repaint - Nikolai Volkoff or Roddy Piper

Man, I fall into the subcategory of people they should be leaning towards selling, in all seriousness. I'm 23 so I grew up in the attitude/wcw era, at the tail end of the truly legendary names' running the show...I'm a huge wrestling fan, but not so much so that I know every person and their benchmarks, etc.
I buy Legends based on if I remember them or not. Or liked them rather. Take Series 5 for example, the ONLY one I'm getting is Bam Bam...why? Because I either only know the others by name or seriously could care less about them.
There are obvious ones I want to see. Hulk, Flair, Bret Hart, etc. But I would also like to see guys like Kevin Nash (WCW, NOT Diesel), Scott Hall (I'd be fine with Razor Ramon)...the guys from DX, the guys from NWO...I wanna see Big Boss Man, and Doink and Yokozuna. A Glacier figure would be epic if only because I know Mattel would do it right. Ken Shamrock, Steve Blackman, etc. would all be great too. And then sprinkle figs of really old school guys in that most of you would appreciate more than fans like I would.
I'm not saying you guys don't deserve those figures, you do, and they deserve to be immortalized in said way. But as the kind of fan they seem to want too market to a bit more. I'm just giving my 2 cents.

The line is NOT going away. Mattel always says lines are in trouble because of sales yet DCSH/DCUC, JL/JLU even MOTU have all continued one way or another. Plus Bill from Mattel said during last Monday's RAW chat they will not be showing any new Legends or WWE product until SDCC so they can make a big splash like last year. And he said Bret is coming before the end of the year. The line is not in trouble. And for the people who keep mentioning Diesel as a figure that'll sell better than Arn or Tully let's look at all his Jakks figures that warmed the pegs. CS11 was a major pegwarmer and his LOTR figure still sits 5 deep at my local TRU stores. Just because you don't know or like someone doesn't mean they won't sell well.

i think the one definite change is you will see a lot more "brand name" wrestlers in every series...maybe even TWO "main event" guys in each series...
Series 1 had Austin...other than the K-Mart HOF figures, they sold pretty well around here...
Series 2 had none...maybe Jake (?) .....they pegwarmed massively around here...
Series 3 had The Rock....everyone but Pillman sold here....
Series 4 had the Warrior...sold briskly....
Series 5 had Savage....we only got 2 cases here, but both went....
....so i think they learned from the mistake of not having a "Big Name" ,or perhaps more approriately a name known to the general public , with Series 2 and have corrected all subsuquent series to make sure there's at least one there....i expect LOTS of repaints/remolds of Warrior (already happening) , Savage, Austin,Rock,HBK, Undertaker (when he retires), Hogan and Flair (when available) , HBK....possibly Andre....Hart,Nash/Diesel...
i would expect something like:
Series 7:
Rockers HBK (main eventer) Rockers Marty Jannetty Andre the Giant (main eventer) Arn Anderson DDP
Series 8:
NOD Rock ( main eventer) Macho King Randy Savage (main eventer) Warlord Barbarian Honky Tonk Man
Series 9:
Ultimate Warrior w/ singlet (main eventer) Bret Hart (main eventer) Tully Blanchard Lex Luger Big Boss Man
Series 10:
Diesel (main eventer) Steve Austin jeans and shirt (main eventer) One Man Gang Blake Beverly Beau Beverly
Series 11:
Hollywood Hulk Hogan (main eventer) Goldberg (main eventer) Earthquake Typhoon The Mountie
Series 12:
nWo Randy Savage (main eventer) Bret Hart repaint (main eventer) Mabel Mo Booker T
....something along those lines, with 2 mainstream guys per series, hoping for the guaranteed sales, and a mix of semi-well know to obscure wrestler making up the rest of the mixes...

Another post about the legends line ending. Must be WF-Mattel forum. Oh and to say that Tully Blanchard didn't leave a lasting impression on anyone is a disgrace.

ya know guys, i read these threads but they are so ridiculous. Not to speculate the future of the line but to say who is wanted/marque and who isnt. We are all different and have different opinions. Someone before said Ken Shamrock was marque, i wouldnt buy ken shamrock for $.50. I dont like him and i dont care about a figure of him. I however would buy a Rougeau Brothers set for $100. Its really stupid and pointless to name series lineups and categorize them in terms of how wanted they will be. None of us last time i checked are marketing mastermind entrepeneurs. With that said i think a Legends Randy Orton "thats what i am" attire would sell like hot cakes...no im not serious

All I know is that my Target still has series 1. I'm growing tired of Mattel's distribution.

But Like you Said Its Hard to Say Whether D-Lo Brown or Ken Shamrock Would Shelf Warm or Not, Mattel Needs to Market these Names in Surveys or whatever they gotta do to find out who would Sell the best.

I think what I said earlier has been drastically taken out of context. I was simply attempting to give the opinion of someone who is a more "general" fan...and from my perspective, Legends as a whole would sell better if they had bigger and more famous names. I don't even know who the Rougeau Bros. are...but I damn sure wouldn't pay a $100 bucks for Ken Shamrock...however, especially given his run in UFC...he is a name that would sell. That's why I used him as an example. They need names the general public and general fans know and love. Not people like the Rougeau Bros. or Tully Blanchard or those types of people...
And I will repeat, yes, people like Tully Blanchard deserve to be made. They deserve it and their fans deserve it...but just because that's the case does not mean they'll sell. They have to do what sells first, then fill the gaps with what the hardcore fans want.
