first of all props to Mikey for the poll suggestion. so what do you think lads?was the involvement of Vinnie Mac and his often loathsome brood as on air characters a positive force? Im gonna vote yes because of TWO storylines. Austin vs McMahon as we all know was the feud that saved Vinnies bacon.at its hottest it burned like crazy and the introduction of Shane and his subsequent betrayals of Austin and Vinnie(briefly) were well done.even Stephs brief appearances were good. i mean will anyone ever forget Vinnie screaming at Austin in MSG(after THAT pop)when he helped Foley beat the Rock?  me the heat. second is the McMahon/Helmsley regime.....these two trying to screw over the Rock every week made for great TV as did Rocks interactions and promos with both.Foley and Jerichos rivalrys were also top drawer. of course many of their interjections into storylines at the expense of other talent was horrific but based on the above Im giving them a positive. crucially(and I do mean crucially)both of the above developments came BEFORE steph ahd any creative power. discuss. |

Yes for me.
Vince is one of the greatest heels of all time, and also one of the best promo men of all time. Feud with Austin was off the charts, I also enjoyed feuds he had with Hogan & Taker. Also as Austin/Angle's mentor was hillarious. So a positive force for me.
Shane always played his character well, whether it be as an annoying cocky bunghole or brave underdog, took crazy bumps in his matches with Vince, Blackman and most notably KOTR vs Angle to get the talent over. So another positive for me.
Stephanie - Was bearable as daddys girl in 1999 & as Test's fiance, couldn't bear her as the Billion Dollar Princess in the McMahon/Helmsley Era (perhaps she was playing her character too well) thankfully not really been seen too much since becoming Smackdown GM in 2002. Will give her a positive but only just.
Linda - What is there to say really? Wooden acting, terrible on the stick and totally bland, best off, out of the way of the cameras. Peaked when playing herself in a vegetive state during Shane/Vince feud lol. Negative
I'll give the McMahons a 2.75 out of 4 for positive influence.

I enjoy Vince, Shane, & Stephanie. Besides the whole getting out of the wheelchair at Wrestlemania 17, I haven't cared for anything Linda has done.

Hell yeah, Vince McMahon helped Stone Cold's character really take off, because actually defying the boss really proved that Austin was the rebel he was claimed to be. Plus, that feud helped them beat WCW, in fact their match on Raw is War is why they broke Nitro's 80 something week win streak.

In particular feuds, hell yes. McMahon was the biggest heel in the company in that Austin/McMahon feud, and I think Stephanie was equally as villainous at times. However, as a full body of work? Meh, I think a number of times Vince, and Shane for that matter, inserted himself into situations where I don't think it was necessary or came even close to working. Had Vince used himself in moderation I would have said yes without question but by the time Vince the character left tv he was just out there beating a dead horse every night.
I wouldn't argue with anyone who said yes to this, quite frankly because for a lot of people I can see Austin/McMahon being enough, and probably justifiably so. However for me personally, the whole body of McMahon work takes away from the really good things they did with things like the God angle, Spirit Squad, and the more recent Bret Hart feud that just came off as bad imo. Had you asked me this question in 2003 I would have said you were on crack if you said no but now I look at it like a "remember when" situation.

3 low points for me
Shane and The Billion $ Boobjob being heads of WCW and ECW respectively.Flair and Heyman were the way to go here....and we all know it.
Shane McMahons feud with Kane was dreadful and damaged the Kane character forever in my eyes.
The entire roster beong forced to treat The Billion $ Boobjob like a sex queen when she was SD GM.Jesus........Steiner,Bischoff,Cena and god knows how many others were made to look like they were in love with her on TV.

vince was a positive force initially, and then it declined from there on in. although i loved shane's bumps.

Vince, yes. Everybody else, no.
The McMahon/Austin feud was amazing, and I've always loved the Mr. McMahon character, but every other McMahon family member seemed like overkill. The one exception was during the McMahon/Helmsley era. WM2000 didn't need every McMahon in a corner, and the already terrible Invasion angle was even worse by Shane and Stephanie's involvement. Steph was okay as the SD GM until the show began to be centered around her and Vince in mid-2003. Shane has always been annoying, and whwnever he feuded w/ an actual wrestler, it hurt the wrestler's credibility IMO, like X-Pac, Test, Big Show, and especially Kane. Linda was just stupid as hell. Being shown once a year on the "WWE Decision Board" was fine, but she should have never, ever been involved in any storyline.

yeah, Vince's angles back in the day were epic. He was one of the best bad guys of all time in my book. As far as anything current, I wouldn't want to see any involvement. That was something that couldn't be done in a kid friendly era.
It was insane what Austin vs Vince turned into. I loved it.

Vince in the attitude era was brilliant. Shane has been okay at times too. Never really seen why Steph and Linda have been brought into it, but I guess they've all served a purpose.
