I'll be honest, I haven't done gaming in years. I once bought a PS3, had it for a week or two, never turned it on once and sold it. But I have friends telling me I need to do something with my time besides work so I'm looking into gaming again.
I downloaded Steam and got to looking through the catalog to see if there's something I want to get into. I've kind of narrowed down my selection to either Batman: Arkham Asylum, or one of the Lego Star Wars games. I love the Lego games and love the puzzle solving aspects of them. I've never played the Clone Wars game or the Complete Saga game. But Arkham Asylum looks pretty bad ass. It seems to be more hardcore though than the Lego games. I'm also wondering if the price on Arkham Asylum will drop significantly come October when the sequel comes out and if it's better to wait 'til then. Your suggestions?

The Lego games are great if you just want some mindless gaming. The complete saga is great, it's just all 6 movies in one game instead of them being split into 2 like they were on PS2 ans Xbox.
I'd also bet that Arkham will drop in price before long.

Batman: Arkham Asylum all the way! The game is great, and one of my favorite games for PS3. Plus, you can get it for $20 new at just about anywhere that sells game.

I didn't even know you could do that. Gonna email the seller to see if he'll do that. Edit: That seller won't take any questions period. Instant fail. Will look for other sellers on ebay now that I know this is a route I can take.

pffftt I wasn't a fan of Batman.
Get Team Fortress 2 for your multiplayer gaming and get Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas for your single player. Your penis will get bigger, I promise you.

I'm only familiar with the Lego Star Wars games. Those are a lot of fun, so you can't really go wrong there.
I also highly suggest you look into Portal 2. It's not a FPS like it might seem upon first glance, it's an action/puzzle game in the first-person perspective. And as someone who doesn't play many FPP style games, I can't recommend it enough. It makes you use your head and it will make you laugh said head completely off.

Not really a fan of the FPS genre in general. Its not an FPS - partly because you have the option of playing in 3rd person, and partly because its not really based around guns, more around survival and interaction. You can play the game with very little gunplay if you wish. Its also more for your money than any other game around, the world they created is massive. Out of the 2 you are looking at, Arkham Asylum is probably the better game but Lego is less intense if that's what you're after.

I love the Lego games, so much mindless fun, that would be my choice.

The Lego games are great and aren't a bad choice at all. I however would go for Batman: Arkham Asylum. It's one of those games that will suck you in and blow your mind, it's that good. It's rare when a company makes a good comic book based game and Batman: Arkham Asylum is top notch among any video game out there.

I would reccommend a wii with mario kart and smash bros brawl, plus it's cheap.

I ended up getting Arkham asylum. It's a really, really long game I'm finding. I'm only like 25% done and I feel like I have a good 5-6 hours into already.

I'm one of the guys who has to get that to 100% before I can say I beat the game. I've got my work cut out for me.
