Chapter 3: Picnic in Viridian Forest?

“Its great to already be in Viridian City. I know I am not ready for gym battles yet, but I think I am gonna check this out to see what I will be up against. “
I walk to the gym and see a man standing in front of the door.
“Excuse me, I would like to enter this gym please”
“Show me 7 badges”
“…..seven?”
“Yes, this is the eighth gym, but you already know that”
“Um… yea… I knew that… I just thought I would, ya know, check it out real quick.”
“No entry unless you have seven badges”
“Ok, fine”

I was embarrassed that I didn’t know that was the eighth gym. I guess the real first gym is in the next city. I guess I should spend this time training my Charmander.
* Stomach growls *
Oh man, I haven’t eaten since… this morning. Neither has Charmander. I know, ill buy us some food and we can have a picnic in the Viridian Forest!
I walk into a nearby Pokemart and buy some Pokesnacks and candy bars. I put them in my backpack and I begin walking to route 2.
As soon as I entered the route, I was tackled by something that popped out of the bush!
“Hey! What was that!?”
I quickly get up and look around but see nothing. I continue my walk and a minute later I am tackled again! This time I see a brown creature hide back into a bush when I get up.
“Alright, this is pissing me off. Next time im gonna grab whatever that is”
I continue walking, being very careful with my steps. As I walk past each upcoming bush I hold out my hands, ready to see exactlly what this pesky Pokemon is. Finally, it pops out again. This time I am ready and I grab the little Pokemon as it tackles me down. This time I see exactly what it is. None other than a Eevee! I let it go, but instead of running back into a bush like before, it stands there, almost curious with a smile on its face.



“Alright Eevee, if you wont`t leave me alone, I guess im just gonna have to catch you! Go Pokeball!”
I throw a Pokeball at the Eevee but it quickly swipes it away with its paw. It then laughs and runs away.
“I guess it was just messing with me. Fine, well im almost at the Viridian forest now anyway and im starving!”

A few minutes later I reach the Viridian Forest. I open up my backpack and put it down. Then I let out Charmander.
“So Charmander, do want some food?”
“Charrrr”
“Alright, lemme just take it out of this bag and… just… hold… on… WHERES THE FOOD!”
I quickly look around in anger and notice ripped up wrappers on the ground nearby.
“ARE YOU KIDDING ME! WHO STOLE OUR FOOD!”
Charmander points to my right, I look and see a bush.
“Ok, I swear if its that Eevee again im gonna go crazy!”
I quietly and carefully walk near the bush. Then I quickly reach into the bush with both hands, hoping to grab whatever is in here. Instead I feel a sharp pain in my hand.
“OWWWW DAMMIT THAT HURT”
I hold my hand in pain, then Eevee walks out from the bush, very casually. Then it lays down on the ground looking at me, almost chuckling.
“You think this is funny? Charmander, use scratch attack!”

Charmander runs toward Eevee, but Eevee dodges the attack. Charmander goes for it again but Eevee avoids it once more. Afterwords it sits down and begins licking itself. Charmander begins to become as angry as I am at the arrogence of this Eevee. As Charmander turns back to me for further instructions, Eevee tackles him down from behind. As Charmander gets up, Eevee kicks up sand into Charmanders face. Charmander swings his claws wildly but cannot see well from the sand. Eevee continues to easily avoid his attacks and taunt at him while doing it. Charmander finally regains some vision and stares angerly at Eevee, who is still taunting him and me. Charmander starts breathing heavily, each breath hotter than the last. Eevee runs toward Charmander going for another tackle when suddenly small flames burst from Charmanders mouth, scattering everywhere. Eevee gets hit with one and is knocked down.
“Wow, Charmander learned ember! That’s great, do it again!”

Charmander continues to shoot flames from his mouth and Eevee gets knocked down again. I grab a Pokeball and throw it at the Eevee.
*Bing *
*Bing *
*Bing *
Then the Pokeball opened and Eevee popped back out, still wanting to fight. I found it strange that this Eevee had such determination, at one point it seemed I actually kinda wanted it now.

Eevee hit Charmander with another sand attack while recovering from the ember.
“Charmander, just keep using ember!”

Unable to see, Charmander was shooting off ember in random directions as Eevee was moving out of the way. Eventully, one of the shots hit it and it fell down. I was about to grab another Pokeball when I noticed that the Eevee was in a lot of pain. Charmander was about to shoot another ember when I instructed him to stop.
“Wait Charmander, this Eevee looks like it might have a burn. Im gonna take it to the Pokecenter in Pewter City.”

Charmander did not seem to agree with my decision due to the fact that this was the same Pokemon who stole our food. But I knew this Eevee was hurt, and I would not leave it here. Holding it in my arms, I ran to Pewter City. As I ran it was looking at me in a way that seemed like it was glad I was helping it. I don’t know if it was because of how much pain it was in or if I finally gained its respect, but either way, I was happy that I could help.

Eevee`s recovery went fine and the nurse there did a great job. When she gave it back she asked me if I was this Eevee`s owner. I replied no, which surprised her and led her to say: “Well, he sure likes you, so maybe you should be”. That surprised me. I went to look down at the Eevee, but noticed it was no longer there. I guess it didn’t like me after all.
Suddenly I saw him in my backpack again, which I left at a table.
“Theres no more food in there Eevee, you ate it all.”
But what happened next surprised me. What the Eevee pulled out of the bag was an empty Pokeball. He then rolled it to me and smiled.
With a smile on my face I picked up the Pokeball and threw it, catching the Eevee with ease. I now have 2 Pokemon and my journey is only getting started.
