As ridiculous as it may sound it works both ways. Given a certain situation extreme Christians might cause an even bigger uproar than this.

My question on anything that people find offensive is how long has it been there and what brought it to their attention. After that we have to assess are they picking singularly on that specifically or are they planning on taking it the full mile. To be offended by a sign seems foolish but if they are sincerely offended then they need to push for any sign in any area of any state city town to be removed or changed. You cannot pick apart one thing and leave the rest unnoticed in my eyes...
everyone has a right to what they view is ok and everyone has a right to the freedom to say it. I may say leave it, but then again I dont find offense to atheist signs that tell me that i am believing in fairy tales...and i have seen a few in my area...I just go on. maybe im too laid back on things involving freedom.
And for the record I do understand the laws of church and state.

Well the sign was made to honor 7 firemen that died during the 911 attacks so it hasn't been there that long. But I mean, it's such a nice way to honor these men and it certainly sounds a hell of a lot better than Seven Rotting in the Ground Way.

See this is where I have to disagree, atheist may decree no God but each one has a different set of principles and beliefs. And im sure their idea was not to put it in such a negative light. I think you maybe overstepping a bit yourself here with your statements. Given the fact that the law does state a separation of church and state, the only thing that will hold that sign there is if the duration by which it had been there gives it the heads up...otherwise if this is taken into courts, it will probably be removed.

The state of NY is right here. They didn't choose the "seven in heaven" moniker. The families of the dead firefighters did. That is how the families of the firefighters choose to remember them. I'm ok with that. It's not a religious symbol and the city isn't preaching any religion at all.
The article also mentioned the fact that we have cities like Corpus Christi and no one tries to get those cities renamed. Corpus Christi literally refers to the body of Christ. You can't get more religious than that, yet no atheists are offended.

I'm curious if they are offended by an adopt a highway sign that has the name of a church on it.

if the families are ok with it, then people should suck it up
I don't believe in certain things/agree with religions but I'd never be offended by people that do -- unless they're trying to force it on me

IMHO atheists are people who either: • Have had a a bad falling out with members of there old church • Have taken to being atheists just to fit in with someone they like • Are just haters who think its cool to hate on god
And usually I dont pay attention to what some hippy atheist says, they'll prob grow out of that fad anyway.

Who made you the authority of every atheist? Surely you have like 6 people in mind when you made your bullet points, but that doesn't include everyone, thank you so much.

I became one because there is no scientific proof that god exists nor that the bible is gods words. So dont lump all of us into the same boat as others. I dont get offended by anything to do with god, Its when they try to force there religion on me that i have a problem

Or that I'm a rational-thinking human being who uses deductive reasoning to come to the conclusion that there is absolutely no logical reason to believe that a "God" exists. What's funny is that I could come up with a pretty good description of why people are religious... "IMHO religious people either: • Have never thought about life in a sense other than what their family taught them when they were young. • Are literally brainwashed by blind "faith" in something that might as well be a flying spaghetti monster. • Are uneducated on scientific fact. • Believe that they are socially "better" than those who do not believe in God. • Have become content with the fact that their lives are miserable and would rather "blame" it on (or as they would say "leave it in the hands of") God. • Do not understand the historical fact that religion has been used for centuries to suppress entire populations of people and get them to serve without questioning the point of their lives." -------------- At the end of the day, I'm completely un-religious, but I am not going to try and stop people from expressing their own beliefs. I see nothing wrong with this road's name. If they made it so that you had to be a Christian to drive on the road or something, then yeah, I would not be happy.

By all means, believe what you want, but don't act like belief and non-belief are the same thing.
