sports.yahoo.com/mma/news;_ylt=AtOcx9BSeC_TicSeDp6msfg9Eo14?slug=dm-meltzer_mma_judges_scoring_071111Interesting system, and I think this could be what fixes decisions in the UFC. I thought about having a clear scoring system (like the tie-breaker judge) instead of the 10-point system, but that might lead to more "safe strategies" that would allow a fighter to rack up easier points. I'm interested to see if this becomes the main scoring system. If it even fixes a small percentage of fights, it would be for the better. What's everybody's thoughts on this? Should the UFC put this new system in place? Would it be better than the current system?

...it's definitely worth a go. Or maybe give 10-8, 10-7 rounds more freely/regularly... I've often thought it doesn't seem "right" that a guy can just squeak-out a round and it's scored 10-9, when another can clearly outbox or outwrestle someone, score multiple takedowns or dominate the round - and it's still scored the same, 10-9. Judges only tend to give less than a 10-9 round if a guy is out on his feet several times or nearly stopped.

Not worth it. They need to change the scoring criteria completely.

It's a start. Unfortunately bad judging and scoring go hand in hand. I almost think there needs to be a way to clearly implement point scoring and deduction to ensure that fighters win the proper rounds. Sounds like the "4th judge" aspect plays into that a bit.
