Saw it tonight. I'm a strange case when it comes to Harry Potter.
I was fairly into it when I was younger, I saw read the first three books and enjoyed them, then went through a phase where I just stopped reading entirely. I saw the first film in theaters, then the second and third when they released on DVD.
After that I drifted away entirely. I didn't touch the series again until about a month and a half ago. I just sort of lost interest and felt too overwhelmed to catch up. Each year, my friends would beg me to see the new film with them and I'd just decline and resolve to catch up at some point.
I finally got around to it this year, after I was able to get the first six films on Blu-Ray for a steal through Columbia House. My initial intentions were to wait until the big boxed set came out with all eight, but at the price I paid, I couldn't pass this deal up.
I finished up with the Deathly Hallows Part 1 a little under a month ago and was disappointed that I hadn't started watching the series sooner. I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed them, and how consistently they managed to entertain and keep me wanting more.
I waited a week to let the rush die down and opted to see Part 2 in 2D. I don't care for such story driven movies to be in 3D, I find it to be a distraction. Additionally, the fact that it wasn't shot in 3D made me completely uninterested.
Man, I'm glad I went for the 2D option. The visuals were still fantastic, and I truly feel as though this is the way the film was meant to be viewed. The Harry Potter series doesn't need, and never has needed, to rely on 3D as a crutch, so why start now?
I have a hard time saying that this film was anything but my favorite in the series. The only one I could imagine would come close would be the Goblet of Fire, and even that seems pale in comparison.
I may have joined the party late, but the series truly was a force to be reckon with and something that deserves nearly all the praise it receives. Glad I at least got to see the bookends on the big screen.

When I was a kid I was a huge Harry Potter fan, I completly loved the books, the first 3 movies, I had action figures, hell I even dressed as Harry one year for holloween. Towards the 4/5th movie I really started losing intrest, I mean, I still loved the movies and would see them whenever they came out, but other than that I had little intrest in HP.
Fast forward to Deathly Hollows part 1. I was gonna see it in theaters like I usually do but for some reason or another I kinda missed it in theaters and never got a chance to see it until its DVD release. When I did I remembered how much I loved Harry Potter and how badly I needed to see Part 2. The story, characters, everything has always been amazing too me and its crazy how much the series has evolved over the years from the little kids learning spells in the first 2 movies to the adults traveling the world and battling the forces of evil in the last 2. Its great being part of the generation that aged the same time the actors did and that is another reason these movies are so special.
Enough of my pre-movie ranting, as I just got back from theaters and I cant stop talking about it now. It was simply incredible. I really thought the hype would ruin it but it was better than anything I ever could have expected. Almost the entire movie was incredible and its simply amazing how they incorperated so much from the older movies and put all the peices together.
SPOILERS AHEAD:
The one thing I did hear about was that there would be a Snape flashback scene that would be amazing. I had no idea what that truely meant untill I saw it.
WOW. That might be one of the best scenes in Harry Potter history. Everything about that explains EVERYTHING.
I also love how much Neville evolves from a chubby little kid who is afraid of everything and cant do anything right to a man who stands up for himself and is actually kind of a badass.
(He kills hundreds of Voldemorts soilders and kills the last hocrux, seriously)
Also, when Harry died, part of me died inside. That part was really intense and its really crazy how much a character in a movie can make you legimately sad. Growing up with Harry makes you kinda develop a bond. I actually predicted Harrys scar being a hocrux and him having to die but I always thought there would be no way that could happen.
The part where Harry tricks Voldemort and comes back was amazing aswell, hell this whole movie is so incredible im running out of words to say. There is seriously so much to talk about .
Enough ranting. I dont know if I am just still in awe or not but this is actually my favorite movie of all time. And I really mean that.
