I remember the Legends elite ring with the Andre the Giant figure but can't remember why it was scrapped, can someone fill me in?

I'm gonna guess it was due to the poor sales of the legends line.

If I remember correctly it was because of the poor sales of the ESR.

They said because it was hard to get a retailer on board with it because of the SRP is so much and the sales of the ESR weren't that great.

There was a pic of it in a WWE magazine a while back with the DM Macho Man figure standing on the turnbuckles.

Probably canceled because of the poor sales of ESR.

Yes, unfortunately, the ESR just wasn't really picked up by retailers due to the high retail price. It's kinda screwy when you look at it, though. Mattel's low sales numbers probably come from the units sold to retailers but to me, it seems that the stores that did carry it all sold out in less than a quarter. I think I only saw it on sale once at TRU before they disappeared. If they sold out so quickly, I wonder why stores didn't restock.
In contrast, Jakks RSR's were a worse retail scenario that somehow got pushed more. The box was huge & took up a lot of shelf space, the price for some of the bigger sets was double of the ESR, there were several types of RSR's which made it even more expensive to collect all match types, and these rings were still in stores for months after Jakks lost the WWE license.
I guess it was combination of stores being cautious after buying so many RSR's, Jakks collectors being hesitant to buy another premium ring, and the current economy that doomed the ESR and killed our chances to that awesome Legends ring. It's a shame, too, the ESR is arguably the best ring out there right now!

I really don't need another ESR anyways, at least the Andre is gonna get released as a regular legend as opposed to a $70 bundle. Sales of the ESR were probably hurt when they decided to cancel the Smackdown apron and ropes that would come with the first 1000 or 10000 rings. They just need to make aprons and ropes for the ring and sell those that would probably boost sales of the ESR, not much but it might help.
Maybe with the over priced Defining Moments line they could include ropes and aprons for the event that that particular figure is based on? In the long run the ESR was more of an adult collector piece cause the price, most parents won't drop $60 on a ring when they could spend that on 1 ring and a few figures.

The ESR would have had better sales if it actually made it to the stores. I don't recall ever seeing it once in stores around here.

I didn't see the ESR very much, either. But anyway, apparently it sold poorly and combined with legends "selling terribly", it was a no brainer to axe it. I asked them in the Q&A if they were planning on doing a Smackdown ESR within the year, and they said it was unlikely. So, that might be it entirely for any ESRs, sadly.

If I remember correctly it was because of the poor sales of the ESR. I think this was more the reason. They sold way fewer ESR's than they were expecting and didn't make financial sense to do another more niche one (classic version). That was one of the great things I miss about Jakks. They were a smaller comopany so they took more risks and were not always controlled by the bottom line. Thats why we got 3 RSR classic versions and 2 current ones. Not to mention rocky. Fond memories.

It's a shame, too, the ESR is arguably the best ring out there right now! Sounds about right. I remember picking up my ESR at the Baton Rouge TRU (they had about 4) and when they showed up at my local TRU, the 3 or 4 that I saw didn't last very long before selling. I'd love for Matty to put out at least some different ring skirts, ropes, and turnbuckles so that ESR owners could have a little variety when playing with/displaying their rings. A cage would be nice, too, but they've already crapped on that idea.

Well ya know what mattel, and RSC, we want a legends elite ring! I have my Jakks Cage but the mattel product is far superior.
