For Illustrator, I just trace the shapes with the pen tool. There's also the live trace function, but it's kinda cheap and I don't know how to use it well. I have some logos that need to be printed on decal paper, but I need to buy some ink and decal paper haha

The pen tool is very interesting and I hope to spend a little more time with it. Thanks for the advice.

^Jay, I picked up this bamboo wacom pen tablet awhile back for $40. It doesn't work too well with illustrator. It works good with the corel program that it came with though. If you did get a pen, maybe something with a bit more quality.
I don't think it's a necessity to get a pen though.

Yeah, I haven't invested in a pen yet but I will soon. I will remember that when I'm shopping, Thanks!

Any good suggestions for a Necro Butcher scan that would fit mattel? I can mod hair but not facial features(nose, or cheeks, etc). Is that Robbie scan too big?

what the is going on with the customs board? is anyone even paying attention to it? we have like 6 threads of non customs right now that dont belong here. its buggin the poop out of me. That's basically been the quality of the boards for some time now. The problems are minor, yet still overwhelming. It's pretty funny to watch some of the nonsense that goes down on a daily basis. I've said it before and I'll say it again, this section is occupied heavily by post whores and people fishing for positive karma. Post a god awful custom? The thread will often float near the top of the page due to tons of idiots rushing in to make unfunny jokes about it. Post a poorly made custom that is barely finished? The thread gets flooded with typical "It's kinda sloppy, but I still like it, keep it up!" posts. Post a blurry/tiny pic of a custom that is barely recognizable? The thread still gets flooded with "Pics kinda small, but I like it! Keep it up!" posts. Take the time to post a figure that took effort? Often the thread slips down quickly (often being buried under the types of threads I mentioned above), or only gets filled with lazy "COOL!" or "Good job." posts. It is what it is though. I'm sure with time things will pick up, but I have no problem ignoring the bs in the meantime.I personally just post figures to keep busy, pull in some orders, and then just ignore 95% of the comments I get on my work. Outside of that, I browse as often as possible (I'm admittedly bad with making time to comment on peoples work), and keep a look-out for updates from the good contributors.

chicano, if you paint a white area where you want to decal, place and set, and then paint back over, it works well

People use either Aves Apoxie sculpt which is a air drying clay or Super Sculpey which is an oven bake clay but on figures people heat it with a hair dryer or by boiling it.

Hey guys! Here's a WIP Mattel Chris Hero. To be honest, I'm not too familiar with him and just started watching his matches. I had a Funk around that I wanted to customize and I thought Hero was perfect for it. Anywho, this is probably gonna be the most difficult custom i've ever tried. I really want to sit down and take my time with this one. The HERO on the back of the trunks didn't turn out as good as I'd like. With that said, I need some of your guys' advice on his attire before I proceed any further: 1) Should I paint on his arm sleeve? and is their a logo on it? (I want to make his illegal green elbow pad, so did he ever wear the arm sleeve while using the green elbow pad?) 2) Is it inaccurate to leave his elbow pad black? From the match that I watched, it was red. 3) What Chinese character(s) is on his wristband? I've looked on Google and can't find a good reference. 4) What type of boots should I use? I was thinking between Ziggler's or kickpads, whichever one is more accurate (unless there's a better alternative) Any is help is much appreciated!
