I was listening to the ‘I Want Wrestling’ Podcast and Dave Lagana came up with an interesting idea for the Royal Rumble 2012 that I’d like to share with you guys and get your thoughts on.
Firstly, John Cena vs The Rock at WrestleMania 28 MUST be for the WWE Championship - Why? Because any WWE title match under this on the card will be useless.
Secondly, Daniel Bryan has already stated that he will be cashing in his Money in the Bank briefcase at WrestleMania 28 versus whoever the World Heavyweight Champion will be at that time.
So, with both RAW and SmackDown’s World title matches already provisionally booked this leaves Royal Rumble 2012 useless? Yes - The Rumble winner could add themselves to either World title match making it a Triple threat, But what about this...
How about the winner of the Royal Rumble next year earns the right to face the Undertaker in his final match and has a chance to break the streak.
If WWE plan on another 40-Superstar Rumble match this leaves the door open for some fun cameos of past superstars who have faced Undertaker at Mania, we could perhaps see surprise entrants such as Jimmy Snuka, Jake the Snake, Diesel, HBK, Sid, A-Train, Bundy and maybe more.
With WWE making the winner someone who they find worthy of wrestling Undertakers final match and maybe even being the guy that breaks the streak.
So I thought that was an awesome idea - Not mine, Dave Lagana’s but I would be totally up for it… Royal Rumble 2012 - 40 Superstars with the winner going on to WrestleMania to face the Undertaker in his final ever match.
Thoughts?

Since Rock & Cena will probably be for the WWE title, the only thing that could top Rock & Cena is Undertaker's final match...and having the Rumble winner face Taker makes the Royal Rumble match huge...I'd love to see that.

Yeah, I loved his idea and will be disappointed when that doesn't happen.

I've heard this idea before, and hated it than too.
That's incredibly stupid, to have 40 men vying for something as trivial as a chance to face a washed up old guy in what will likely be his final match.
It makes the Royal Rumble useless, like one big battle royal sucking off The Undertaker, who, in my honest opinion, isn't worth it anymore.
Not taking anything away from him, he's a legend, in every sense of the word, but I think that building an ENTIRE Royal Rumble around the prospect of facing him tarnishes what the Royal Rumble has always been about.

Reminds me of Smackdown vs. Raw's "vs. Undertaker" RtWM story.

I don't really see how that would be any sort of reward worth fighting for. No one's going to break the streak, so it would basically be like saying, "Who wants to get beaten at Wrestlemania by the Undertaker?". I'm sorry, but that would just make the Rumble utterly pointless. I still doubt the Cena/Rock match is going to be for the title...if they do go that route, it will be no question who's going to win.

This. Not to mention it would then render it obvious that Cena would retain at Elimination Chamber..

I can understand that there are doubts that The Rock vs John Cena match will actually end up being for the WWE title and at first I was totally against it - The match is big enough to sell on it’s own without the strap being on the line which could be used in another match... but lets be honest Dave Lagana is right when he says is has to be on the line with Rock/Cena - Because any other match under it will be useless and crushed in comparison.
Lets says at Mania’ 28 we have the following:
Legend vs Icon (or whatever tagline they plan on using): The Rock vs John Cena.
WWE Championship match: CM Punk vs Alberto Del Rio (Just hypothetically, who knows who will be on top come then)
Erm yeah, that Punk/Del Rio match isn’t looking so strong now is it?
But instead we could see…
WWE Championship, Legend vs Icon: The Rock vs John Cena
World Championship: Daniel Bryan vs Randy Orton (Or Whoever is world champion by then)
Deadman's FINAL match, Streak on the line: Undertaker vs CM Punk (Or Whoever wins the Rumble)

Why does it have to be for the right? I'm sure they could just as easily have someone win the Rumble, and find a contract "clause" that allows them to pick who they want to fight at Wrestlemania.
This year's WM is going to be completely different going into it, because of the events of last year's. Undertaker has been pushed to the limit the last 3 years, so whoever he faces will more than likely have confidence based on just that.

Punk needs to win at WM again. He won 2 straight MITB matches, but since then, has jobbed twice in a row. Which he should never have jobbed to Randy this year, he DOMINATED that match, and for Randy to hit like 2 moves and end it, that was BS.

No.
Cena/Rock is bigger than the title. If you look at Rock/Hogan from X8 or Rock/Austin from XIX, those matches were bigger than the title matches itself. Cena and Rock dont need the effect of the title to have that big match feel. Plus like others have said, to have someone win the Rumble pretty much to just job to Taker at WM is stupid.

I'd love to see Punk vs Taker with Punk being the one to end the streak.
Punk doing the whole I don't give a crap character would be awesome against Taker who is so serious all the time.
It would just make sense "You ended HBK's career, if you're so confident you'll win at 'Mania you put yours on the line, Deadman" and lo the story writes itself.

This year's WM is going to be completely different going into it, because of the events of last year's. Undertaker has been pushed to the limit the last 3 years, so whoever he faces will more than likely have confidence based on just that. Undertaker doesn’t just hand out these matches anymore like he used too, He was reluctant to face HHH this year and actually said ‘No’ to another match with HBK at Mania’ 26, making HBK fight and claw for a rematch (he tried to win the Rumble to face him and lost, and finally resorted to screwing him out of the title at Elimination Chamber). Plus, seeing as Undertaker has been pushed to the limit the past 3 years - there is going to be a stronger chance than ever that the streak may finally be broken… Never say never, as WWE could easily make him lose his final match and ride off into the sunset - giving that Superstar a HUGE push (hoping WWE don’t drop the ball with them later down the line). That said, Would beating the Undertaker at Mania be a curse? Achieving something that nobody before you could do - Carrying that with you for the rest of your career is a huge responsibility and WWE could only give that to someone worthy of it. Yeah I undertand where your coming from but at Mania X8 the Main event was HHH/Jericho (for some reason it was made the main event) and after the buzz of Rock/Hogan nobody even cared about that match (as mentioned in Jericho’s 2nd Book). At Mania’ 19 Rock/Austin wasn’t the main event but overshadowed Lesnar/Angle for the WWE title and definitely overshadowed HHH/Booker T for the World title.

Yeah if Cena vs Rock was for the wwe title it is obvious cena would win unless rock was staying permanantly.
But the RR for a match vs Undertaker is alright a bit pointless. I would love to D Bryan turn heel and cash in before wrestlemania.

To be fair, it's not like the Rumble is what it used to be. It doesn't guarantee a title win like it used to, and the winner isn't always in the main event anyway. I like the idea, it's fresh.

I think it's safe to say smackdown will have a triple threat at wrestlemania.

I think the Rumble winner should ALWAYS face the champ (WWE or WHW) at WrestleMania. Rock/Cena can happen without any title on the line.
BUT Rock/Cena, by star power, would most likely be bigger than the title match itself, so Rock/Cena should be put last or else it will kill the thunder of any match after it, much less keeping people inside the building.
And if this is Undertaker's last match, but him with someone worthy. Who is that guy? I don't know yet.
So my point: We should have a WWE title match with the Royal Rumble winner. We should have a World title match with DB. Rock/Cena should come last since WrestleMania. Undertaker should have a match with another big star, but not necessarily the Rumble winner. (this way we can have 4 huge matches for the biggest card of the year)
WWE shouldn't sacrifice the essence of Royal Rumble - this has already become tradition. Nor should it sacrifice having a separate WWE title match.

Whoever faces the undertaker will be a big match anyway, every year it gets more tense, will they beat him? Won't they? Will it be the last? It doesn't need the rumble to build it, if they get the right opponent it will sell itself. So will the Rock vs Cena match, it's big enough, doesn't need title. Not using the Royal Rumble to build a title match would just be wasting another good match. Idealy my dream card is: Rock vs Cena Daniel Bryan vs WHC Royal Rumble winner vs Champion (Hopefully one of them being Del Rio, maybe Del Rio vs HHH) Sin Cara vs Rey Austin vs Punk Undertaker vs (Maybe even Bryan, submission match, taker could come back making everyone tap to his hells gate, going over everyone with it and winning the title. Until Bryan issues the challenge, failing that, Orton)
