Fantastic game between Manchester United and Athletic Bilbao. Bilbao thgroughly deserved the win, and it could have been 5 or 6 if De Gea hadn't played as well as he did.

Why are we talking about Man Utd in the champions league thread?

Chelsea played well tonight, but nothing AVB couldn't do imo. Still think they'll get smashed by Real/Barca/Bayern.
Di Matteo blindsiding Drogba and Torres for hugs made me lol.

Di Matteo blindsiding Drogba and Torres for hugs made me lol. I was surprised Drogba didn't go down holding his face instinctively. Glad they won, it's nice to have an English side in the Champions League, and I reckon our chances are better on Sunday now.

Quality performance from us tonight. Showed a lot of togetherness and graft to get through. With the Players and way we play now, we have to use a lot more energy and effort, and we did that tonight. Anyone but Real Madrid or Barcelona I'll take for the next round, although it's only a matter of time we draw Real Madrid.

Funny that both Real Madrid and Barcelona both get the first legs of there Semi's Away, set up perfectly for a Real Madrid/Hosts vs Barcelona Final.
Good draw for us especially with the first leg Away, but can't really overlook the fact that we will probably get Barcelona in the Semi's.

Barca-Chelsea, Real-Bayern semis, Barca-Real final, Real winners. Real-Bayern could be a great couple of games.

We didn't lose to Benfica, and we dominated them at OT, but we were so bad in Europe this season that we're not a fair test. Will be very surprised if Chelsea don't win, I think Napoli were a harder draw.

Some good games to look forward to. I'm thinking Bayern may be dark horses, would love them to get to the final. Think the trophy has Madrids name on it though.

English teams tend to look down to smaller championship teams (like the dutch, portuguese, greek) and many times get surprises. Just look at what happened this year with Man City, Man Utd and Tottenham this season...

Not saying we look down oin you, because you capitalised on us having an awful European season, but anyone would say that Chelsea are the favourites. They're simply a stronger team.

You have the right to have your opinion. I personally think that from the 4 matches of the quarter finals Benfica-Chelsea is the one with most unpredictable outcome... To have an opinion based on players names can be tricky. And you have a good example: Man City was just eliminated by a team who is 5th in the Portuguese league and is 11 points behind Benfica... The same City that is 21 points ahead of Chelsea. Not to mention Man Utd was third on Benfica's group... Also at this point of the European competitions there is only 1 English team left... Spain has 4...Germany has 3... Even Portugal has 2. With this im not trying to say Chelsea does not have a great team. They do...they might even go to the final. However i really dont see the outcome as cristal clear as you do. Before Sporting's match Dzeko said he could not name their most dangerous players simply because he didnt know any... I really think this cost Man City the round... It was cocky and it was problably not even true...He doesnt know players like Izmailov or Matias Fernandez? Even Elias or Polga (a former world champion)?? Its a common mistake from English teams...You want another proof? Check Drogba reaction to Benfica's draw:

Good win for Chelsea, deserved in the end. Real also raped APOEL, although Benzema's miss was hilarious.
