I was watching some old matches today and some of them featured the Boss Man, which made me remember that despite how mean his look and gimmick was, he was very quick and agile in the ring. From his heavier Twin Towers days to his leaner later years in the WWF (pre-Attitude), this guy was one of their top performers. If he were wrestling today, Boss Man in his prime would probably be IC champ. I guess it was unfortunate for him that during the Hogan era, very few were selected as WWF or IC champs and he wasn't one of them.

in fairness though he was one of those competitors that didn't really need a belt.
played his part well when up against hogan and always seemed to deliver no matter who he was against.
i'm sure he held the hardcore title at some point as well!

What annoys me is the fact that he never was given an official finisher/a finisher that was effective-looking.
People say it was the Bossman Slam, but I don't think he did that often at all in the WWF. Plus, that was essentially a sidewalk slam, not really that effective.
I loved his stuff from his original run in the WWF though.

BossMan in 99 was amazing, that was him in his peak. Its such a shame that we never got a proper BossMan/Austin match and fued, cause their DG match was great for the length. But Yea, BossMan was the first wrestler I ever saw and was what made me a fan, and my username obviously shows my liking for him.

Anyone know how much weight he dropped and how between 1988 & 1991, got to 100lbs at least.

You have to remember that in the late 80s/early 90s they didn't just give belts away. Only the people that could really put the title over or be put over big by the title got them.
Guys like BBM were over huge without it. I really can't picture him having a title during that time.
A Twin Towers tag title run would have bee cool, but other than that I don't think he needed anything. He had a great run in the early 90s.

I loved the Boss Man in both WWF runs - like someone said he didn't need a belt although the Twin Towers would have been fun as tag champs and as a kid I was adament he'd beat Perfect for the IC title at WM7. Was good to see him return and be part of the Corporation. I can't recall him using the Boss Man Slam when he returned. I may be wrong. His #2 Hasbro figure was great for the slam though and always a good character to play on Wrestlefest.

He used it alot from Jan-March atleast, infact i think he won all matches he had with that move.

Yeah Boss Man didnt need a belt.like so many op0thers at that time he was goldnen without one.
a lot of folks say he should have beaten Perfect at WM7 for the strap-but that would have lessened the impact of Bretas win over Perfect at the following Summerslam.
eitherway Bossman was great.loved his face turn in early 90.

I think Bossman would've been THE choice for the Texas Tornado IC run in 1990. It wouldn't have even changed much during the time.
Tornado would need to be introduced with a bang (IC title or no IC title) to be on the Warrior team. He was feuding with Perfect while Warrior and LOD were in tags against Demolition. It was kind of like the Hogan v. Dibiase team where the team captains really weren't fueding with each other but were team captains because Zeus and Jake or Tornado and a Demolition member wouldn't have made team captain over the Hogan or Dibiase or Warrior or Perfect.
Bossman still would've been on the Hogan team and feuding with Heenan Family but would have an IC run. Bossman could've been the IC title contender instead of refing the Jake/Bad News match though he could've been in Hogan's corner after winning the belt.
Heenan is furious and promises to have the Family destroy Bossman, therefore he's on the Hogan team against Quake/Dino/Heenan Family. Barbarian faces Bossman at Rumble, Perfect defeats Bossman (with help from the Family). Perfect loses title to Bret at Summerslam.
Bossman didn't need a belt but he was such a popular wrestler an IC title run against Perfect and the Family would've been great.
I find it sad Bossman faded away during his last few months with WWF. I think a tag team with Virgil would've been nice to finish the run. The Nailz fued could only go so long even if Nailz stayed. Bossman was great as a major heel and a major face. I think Twin Towers were a great team but Brain Busters and Colassal Connection they may have gotten lost in the tag team title hunt.

I loved Boss Man's original WWF run and thought the Twin Towers needed a Tag team title reign. I actually feel his Boss Man Slam (very similar to the Rock Bottom) was a great finisher, especially when he was heavier.

I thought The Twin Towers would have been better with One Man Gang instead of Akeem.
but Vinces childishness ruined that.

A street thug & rogue cop would have made more sense as The Twin Towers.
Bossman should have gone over Mr Perfect at WM 7 for the IC belt as the perfect culmination to the Heenan family feud. Could have dropped it back to Hennig in June at a SNME (via Mountie cattle prod) ready for Perfect/Bret & Bossman/Mountie at Summerslam.

I thought The Twin Towers would have been better with One Man Gang instead of Akeem. but Vinces childishness ruined that. you're probably right it would make more sense to have a corrupt cop and a street thug as a tag team. however i absolutely loved the Akeem character so really pleased that Vince turned the One Man Gang into him. i believe that Akeem was a dig at Dusty Rhodes. Does anyone know if that's true?

Not sure if it was personal choice or company decision but One Man Gang never lasted long during his WCW runs, only a few months in 1991 and 1995. I don't think One Man Gang in WWF could've done much more after mid 1988 if he had stayed that character. He was like Bundy, in that once he had a run with Hogan and lost he was relagated to more mid card matches. A feud with Bam Bam could only go so far and with Bam Bam gone he would probably be in fueds with Duggan or Junkyard Dog, brawler types.
I think Akeem gave him two extra years in WWF though once Bossman started fueding with Dusty, Akeem was losing steam, kind of an afterthought and the short and easy loss to Bossman at WM 6 couldn't have helped.
I'm surprised Bossman was taken so seriously despite being teamed with Akeem, though with the differences in characters he may have been able to keep some distance from the silly gimmick.
I think with One Man Gang on Twin Towers the fans might lose interest quickly wondering why the 800+ pound team can't beat Demolition though maybe as Gang and Bossman they could've been booked as champions.

i loved the Boss Man during his initial WWF run.....debuting (on PPV) at SummerSlam 88 against Koko B. Ware, through the Twin Towers storyline, to refusing to be bought out by the million Dollar Man,which instantly made him a face, through the Heenan Family feud, up til the end sometime around late 1992/early 1993...
while he was still good upon his late 1998 return,it wasn't the same magic as before to me...

For me Boss Man will always have a special spot for me, as a wrestling fan. When I first got into wrestling as a kid it was around the end of his heel run, and the beginning of his face run. He was the first wrestler I was ever a fan of, and I'm still a fan of his to this day. He was one of those guys that could play a face or heel convincingly, and with little effort. I remember when Vince's masked bodyguard attacked Austin, and revealed himself to be Boss Man, I got pumped big time. I always liked the Boss Man slam as his finisher. I also loved when he used what would years later, become the Alabama Slam. He would just whip his opponents right onto the mat with that move. And I just have to mention one of his classic matches, the Jailhouse Match against the Mountie at Summer Slam. Just a straight up entertaining match, with the funny bits after.

BossMan in 99 was amazing, that was him in his peak. Maybe you didn't watch or see Bossman in his first run but that was def him in his prime. While he had some good moments/highlights in the late 90s he just came across as a another dude in the corporation aside from his Big Show feud.
