IWL AWAKENING
02/05/11 – Saint John, Indiana
Attendance – 1,500-- PRE SHOW NOTES –
- Dale ‘Rated R’ Clarke and Dave Prazak on commentary duties again.
- Some decent hype amongst the crowd for tonight’s show. It appears that yesterdays efforts got a bit of a buzz going.
1.)
PAC [6] defeated
Chris Cage [0] in 10:27 by pinfall with a 630° Senton. A great opening contest to kick things off here tonight. PAC was pretty over here tonight, he could possibly be one of the top faces in the IWL at least with the fans. Chris Cage can work a decent match but he just doesn’t really draw anything from the fans which could hinder his efforts. Crowd loved the finish as PAC goes 2 for 2. ***
2.)
Sinn Bodhi [3] defeated
Brent Albright [0] in 7:43 by pinfall with the Sinn Kick. While the in ring action may have let the rating down there is no denying that the storytelling in this match was top class. Bodhi plays the creepy heel to perfection as the fans really got behind Albright who did everything he could to try and shut the ‘King of the Karnival Freaks’ up. In the end Bodhi blinded Albright with some kind of red mist before hitting the Sinn Kick for the pinfall. **3/4
-- Sinn Bodhi kneels in the corner as the referee calls for medics to help with Brent Albright, who is screaming in agony after being blinded by the red mist. A medic quickly rushes the ring and Albright can be heard screaming that his eyes are burning. We get a image of his face which is stained red as Bodhi slinks out of the ring, a sick grin on his face. --
3.)
Kenny King [8] defeated
Rhett Titus [3],
Matt Jackson [0] and
Nick Jackson [0] in 11:06 when Kenny King defeated Rhett Titus by pinfall with the Coronation. The first multi man match in IWL history kicked off with high stakes as the winner would walk away with an additional five points to their name. What made it more interesting was that two tag teams were involved, a dynamic that definitely improved both the story of the match and the rating. These four men really went at it and by the five minute mark friendships had been forgotten, as demonstrated when King hit Titus with the Coronation for the pinfall. With this win King shoots straight to the top of the table. ***
4.)
Eddie Kingston [6] defeated
Super Crazy [3] in 14:49 by pinfall with the Royal Flush. These two men were very impressive on the debut show and here tonight looked to keep their undefeated status alive. Super Crazy was the firm fan favourite here but it was obvious that Kingston had scouted him out and spent a large portion of his offence on keeping him grounded. Still Crazy managed to hit his signature spots and the crowd loved him for it. A springboard leap straight into a boot lead to Kingston connecting with the Royal Flush for the victory. ***3/4
-- The match bell signals the end of this match as Eddie Kingston takes the three points, but he isn’t done. Kingston grabs a disorientated and out of it Super Crazy and proceeds to nail him with a vicious belly to back suplex. Despite the referees protests Kingston grabs Super Crazy’s legs and proceeds to lock him in the Inverted Cloverleaf. By this point Super Crazy is simply out cold and Kingston soon releases, screaming that this is what happens when you underestimating Eddie Kingston. --
-- INTERMISSION --
- A lot of good reviews for this show so far. Kingston/ Crazy is the fan favourite match but there’s a lot of talk about PAC as well.
- No return date for Indiana was announced. Dale Clarke announced that people should keep tabs on the websites official schedule for more information.
-- END INTERMISSION --
5.)
Sterling James Keenan [3] defeated
Ricochet [0] in 7:49 by pinfall with the MK Ultra. After an otherwise solid opening half to the show this match was not the best way to return from intermission. These two just didn’t seem to flow and while there was some complaints about Ricochet’s shot match last show this one went too long for these men. It didn’t help that the fans seemed dead for this one, barely any reaction when Keenan hit the MK Ultra to take the win. **
-- Following the match Sterling James Keenan grabs a microphone and begins speaking about how he is the only reason any of the people in this crowd are here tonight. By their lack of reaction I can hazard a guess that he’s wrong. Keenan goes on to mock Ricochet before mocking all of the ‘old extremists’ in the back who are more likely to break their back than break somebody through a table. Before he can continue the music of Rhino hits and the crowd went from dead to on fire as Rhino charges the ring, having had enough of the insults. Keenan quickly exits the ring and runs off through the crowd as Rhino hits the ring, leading to... --
6.)
Rhino [6] defeated
Tyson Dux [0] in 14:23 by pinfall with the Gore. Well I think this was easily the surprise of the night. Nobody was really expecting these two to put on the match of the night but that is exactly what they did. Rhino was undoubtedly the fan favourite here but Dux had people split down the middle. They were impressed by his in ring ability but his heelish persona had people against him. The best part of the match was when they took it to the outside and Dux proved himself capable of brawling with the best of them. In the end Dux just came up short, Rhino ducking under a clothesline and nailing the Gore out of absolutely nowhere. The crowd went crazy when he took the victory. ****
7.)
VooDoo Murders (Big Daddy VooDoo [6] & TARU [6]) defeated
American Wolves (Davey Richards [0] & Eddie Edwards [0]) in 14:10 when Big Daddy Voodoo defeated Davey Richards by pinfall with a Spinning Side Slam. Stemming from their confrontation last night two of most rough and tumble tag teams on the scene today went at it in a vicious drag out fight of a match. The crowd were firmly behind the American Wolves throughout this as they had to contend with a noticeable weight disadvantage. There was some concern over TARU’s performance as he just didn’t seem to be all there in the ring at times, including a noticeable period where Davey Richards was clearly carrying TARU. In the end it was the viciousness of the VooDoo Murders that gave them the victory as TARU sent Edwards head first into the security barricade on the outside. Davey Richards concern for his partner distracted him enough for VooDoo to his the Spinning Side Slam. ***3/4
-- With the ring cleared Jon Moxley, who was not scheduled to be here tonight, hits the ring and demands a microphone. Jon Moxley says that it is a crime that he is not involved in action tonight. He says he joined this tour because if anybody is going to prove themselves as the greatest in the world then it is going to be him. He says he will not settle for second best and that when he starts something he does it better than anybody else possible can. Moxley continues on saying that he is disgusted that he lost yesterday to Jimmy Jacobs, saying that Jacobs is a no talented piece of s**t and that when he gets his hands on him next time there will be nothing left. Suddenly Jimmy Jacobs sprints to the ring, tackling Moxley to the ground. The two begin brawling around the ring which only stops when Moxley spits in Jacobs eyes, blinding him long enough for Moxley to make his escape. Jacobs screams at Moxley to face him like a man as Moxley walks up the ramp. --
8.)
Christopher Daniels [3] defeated
Sabu [0] in 18:45 by pinfall with a B.M.E. While this match wasn’t bad by any stretch of the imagination I think everybody was expecting that little bit more from both of these men but chemistry problems seemed to stop either men from really getting into this one. The fans were split between them but people began leaning towards Sabu when he started pulling out his crazy stunts including an insane top turnbuckle suicide dive to the outside. Christopher Daniels wasn’t one to be outdone though and showed off some of his own high flying moves. His first attempt at the B.M.E backfired when Sabu got a knee up and nearly took the win because of it. Sabu brought a chair into play, despite it being against the rules, and threw it at the head of Christopher Daniels. The Fallen Angel managed to duck under it and proceeded to connect with Angel’s Wings followed by the B.M.E to take the win. ***1/2
