Triple H did an interview with AOL Moviefone which MMAFighting.com excepted. Moviefone: How do you think WWE and pro wrestling needs to evolve as UFC and MMA grows in popularity? Triple H: I don't think we have to evolve. It's two totally different things. I think now especially there's this thing like, "oh it's very similar." I don't see us needing to evolve to what UFC does because quite frankly sometimes the fights are long and boring, guys lying around and sometimes the fights are fast and over in five seconds. I've always thought one of the things about us, if you look at us solely from a sports standpoint, is that we always give you a good show. We're never going to give you a crap game. I think if anybody needs to evolve, it's them. Give more of an entertainment standpoint. Give more form; they just have fighters who walk in in T-shirts and shorts and just stand there and then they fight and then they win and then they go "thanks, I'd like to thank my sponsors" and then they leave. The whole world was up in arms when Brock was flipping people off and was cussing at the beer company because they didn't give him any money and everyone thought, "oh my god, he's disrespectful," -- the whole world was talking about it. They couldn't wait to see him get beat up. And then he did well, and he beat some guys and then people jump on his bandwagon going "Brock's the greatest." I'm good friends with Floyd Mayweather and Floyd would be the first to tell ya, "I make the most money in boxing and I have the biggest buyers because I have the biggest mouth." He'd be the first guy to tell you that. That's what it's about. Sports is entertainment. And Punk responds: - CM Punk has commented on the Triple H interview, where he stated that it was the UFC and not WWE that needed to evolve. Here is what Punk posted… "@arielhelwani: RT @mmafighting Triple H: UFC Needs to Evolve More Than WWE aol.it/qVzzuK" RIDICULOUS!!!!! Laugh out loud ignorance. If you don't evolve, you die. When a fan asked if Triple H really made that statement, Punk responded: "Yup! Unreal. Out of touch."

How is it supposed to evolve exactly? It's fighting. It's not like they could add stupid match types for entertainment like WWE does

Plus go the Pride route with a bit grander entrances. I don't think he means make them have ladder matches.

triple h is apparently a silly man. i feel a lot of ufc's/mma's core fans would be pissed if sports entertainment fiascos got in the way of the sport.

That's a funny thing to say considering how WWE is doing the exact opposite with most of their roster.

They always say the top guys are themselves turned up to 11. It's barely true, but it's what they say.

He's right though.
I know little to nothing about the MMA world; but I know about Brock Lesnar and his Middle Finger Fiasco, and I know about Mayhem Miller - a charismatic guy who was enough of a personality to get his own show and just makes his performances more unique than anything else on the card. Out of a card of random nobodies to me, Mayhem Miller stands out and sticks in my mind. Get more guys to be like that, or like Brock Lesnar, and you capture more fans and find new ways to entertain existing fans.

I think the point HHH was really trying to make was that UFC could do more to present their product to it's fans. Which is exactly what they are going to do once they start airing on FOX.

i think the only thing UFC needs to work on is finding a way to cut back on injuries during training. i'm sure they lose alot of buyers when they advertise something like "Rashad Evans vs Jon Jones", then Jon Jones is replaced with Phil Davis. Phil Davis then gets injured and is replaced by Tito Ortiz. don't get me wrong, that'll be a good fight, but it's a big letdown from the original Title fight.

WWE evolving doesn't mean they have to have "guys lying around." Two months ago CM Punk brought edginess to the show. Whether you agreed with him or not, he was moving the product in the right direction. That's what they need to evolve into. Unfortunately it's been watered down since then. HHH is out of touch (in this respect, at least).
They're probably just stirring the pot anyway

After reading that through a few times, I agree with him 100%. People read this (like CM Punk, apparently, unless that's just in-character) and see Triple H saying "WWE doesn't need to evolve in any way shape or form. We should continue to do what we're doing forever. Oh, and UFC sucks. WE'RE NUMBER ONE, WE'RE NUMBER ONE!" What it seems he's actually trying to say (as I see it) is more like, "WWE shouldn't try to emulate UFC at all...that wouldn't make sense for us. We deliver two entirely different products. I do believe that UFC needs to evolve a bit, though...try to make you more interested in the fights, by showcasing the fighters' personalities." Maybe he didn't word it as well as he could have, but that's how I saw it.

I agree with Triple H. The bottom line is this is why WWE is sports entertainment because most of the time fights need to be staged in order to make them entertaining. I'm sorry, but for my time and my money, most UFC fights are NOT entertainment. It's a lot of rolling around on the ground and guys laying on top of each other until somebody runs out of gas and gets a submission on.
Every once in a while you get a really awesome KO, but it's too far and in between and the matches are either too quick or long and drawn out.

The UFC has already evolved beyond the WWE, it does better buy rates and it's coming to FOX next year! Plus it has a live format for the Ultimate Fighter. Oh plus there putting a FREE Heavyweight Title fight on between Cain and Santos to kick it off with FOX, that's ing HUGE!

WWE may be geared towards Little Jimmys now, but Big Jimmys who used to watch WWE are now watching and spending money on UFC and thats a fact.
