Maybe you all can help me out here...I feel like this is a dumb question but how much will it cost since I'm eligible to upgrade from my 3GS on AT&T? I've been eligible since August. One of my friends is claiming if I wait even longer I can get a free upgrade but I truly doubt that.

Prices are still to be announced.

I'm going to guess the price will be about $200. That seems to be industry standard. (Stupid collusion.)

I am perfectly fine with them just releasing the 4S. I have the 4 already, and didn't really want to upgrade it quite yet. I am still very happy with it. But I knew if they released the 5, I would be very tempted. The 4S looks nice, but I don't think I will upgrade unless I have a hardware problem.

They really needed to release something radical and new to keep their market share from being eaten up by Android. So far it doesn't look like they've done that. They've done a basic refresh. Same phone with hardware comparable (and bested in some ways) by most of the Android phones on the market. That's it. They've given no one one any reason to jump ship.

Pretty disappointing. Looks like Nexus Prime will be my next phone.

Unless there is a "one more thing", it looks like all we're getting is a disappointing 4S.

I am just looking at it from my perspective, as I hold no direct relationship with Apple, and their profits. I love the iPhone, but even if they tank because of this or something else, I'll just move on to something different when I am actually ready to upgrade my phone. Right now, the 4 still suites all of my needs and wants.

I think it's honestly better to just get the iPhone 4 for $100 less. the 4S is the same thing with little tweaks and a dual core processor which aren't essential. Google is going to need to take advantage of this.

If you're a current iPhone user and you look at the Android handsets and WP7 handsets that have far, far better hardware, you might jump from the iPhone 4. Now you've got a reason to stick with Apple and just move to the 4S if you're already happy with Apple. If you're already on Android or WP7 and have no reason to switch, the 4S gives you no reason to. Android and WP7 have comparable or better hardware, true 4G and more features.

I don't get why people seem to think this is a bad businesses move, it's not. Apple will still sell a boat-load of iPhone 4s due to the three carriers. You have those Verizon customers that didn't get the iPhone 4 in February, that will buy it. You have the Sprint customers along with the AT&T customers that can upgrade.
This thing will still sell like hot-cakes, especially with the beefed up internals. That's what makes a phone good, not what it looks like.

They're taking market share from them in leaps and bounds. Windows Phone 7 isn't going anywhere now, but it's got Microsoft backing it, it's integrated with XBox Live, it's going to be more integrated with Windows 8 and Microsoft is playing the long game. It's a threat. Apple needs to respond to these threats. Instead, they don't. They roll out a phone that gives current users a reason to stay with Apple, but gives no one else a reason to jump ship. If you're an Android, RIM or WP7 user and haven't gone to Apple for whatever reason, nothing about this phone is going to change your mind.

Their phones have same and/or better internals as well. Android and it's phone manufacturers have been stepping up their game. It took 16 months for Apple to release a phone they released 16 months ago with a few minor tweaks and an OS update with features that has been on Android for a while. A lot people have been waiting for a new iPhone 5 and this is just a kick in the balls.

Yeah, I don't think it will get many new customers. I think mostly 3GS owners who never upgraded to the 4. There definitely isn't much incentive to get it, unless you already love the iPhone and just don't have one for some reason. But a lot of people crapped all over the 3GS, and that sold like crazy too. They will probably release the 5 in the summer.
