I know they have time left on their contracts, but they're gonna be traded in the off season...especially Staal. He's gonna be too expensive and we need another winger or a defenseman. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised to see them try to shop Johnson around for a late round draft pick and just bring up Thessien full time. Trade Staal? Ouch...

I thought the Hawks-Yotes series was the only one allowed to go into OT.

I hope Ottawa wins the Cup and Gillis trades Luongo to Tampa Bay.

We could use a younger second line center over here. We can give you Franzen and a couple other players, if there is anyone who can get Franzen going its Sid.

Yeah, Staal's getting traded...even Staal's admitted that he knows it's probably coming, but he'd like to stay if he could. But he wants too much money that the Pens just don't have because they just signed Neal and have to sign Crosby. There was a rumor going around at the trade deadline that the Pens and Blue Jackets were in talks for a Staal, Martin or Orpik and a Draft Pick for Rick Nash, probably to play on Crosby's line since I don't think they could justify splitting Neal and Malkin up after this season, but considering the money issues the Pens are in for, I can imagine that deal probably won't happen now, which sucks. But considering the Pens are actually starting to age a bit despite how young the stars are, they're definitely in a win now mentality, because not every team can be like the Red Wings and play into their 40s. That, and come two or three years from now, I don't think anyone sees Malkin with the Pens, as even Pens fans see the tensions between him and Crosby even now, and Lemieux would side with Crosby every time. It's like a modern day Lemieux/Jagr, and we saw what happened after that band split up. This team doesn't have much longer before they're due for a rebuild, so I imagine they'll get whatever they can to try to get at least one or two more Cups out of this squad. Haha.

See, I'm too optimistic about them signing Staal, but the trade at next years deadline, or hell even at the draft here in Pittsburgh this year is probably Staal's last time with the team. To be quite honest, if Shero could move Martin and Michalek for a young defenseman and a decent winger to clear cap space, I'd be all for it. Despres/Strait/Morrow are all knocking on the door, and for 19-20 year old kids Strait and Depres played great in the 3 playoff games this year.

Schneider will be back next season, and we'll have a re-tooling this summer. I love the pickup of Kassian, been a fan since he was a spitfire, but Gillis traded someone who was ready NOW for somebody who might be ready next year. We needed to be humbled like this and hopefully it forces some change.

Well Strait played very well this year when he wasn't injured. I mean, he broke his hand in the first game and was beat up pretty frequently throughout the season. If he could stay healthy, I could justify moving around Michalek, who had health problems of his own this year. I just would hate to see Michalek and Lovejoy separated next season. They may be one of the best defensive combos in hockey right now...and they're definitely one of the most underrated.
But as for Staal, I'm not optimistic at all about them giving him a new contract. Unless he is willing to devalue his opinion of his worth so we can sign him to a reasonable deal, he will not be with the Pens next year...especially after the trade deadline. And since he knows he's not a first line guy here but thinks he can be a first line guy elsewhere (which he can't be, he proved that last year when he WAS the first line guy after Malkin and Crosby went down and the Pens absolutely tanked under his leadership), I doubt he'll settle for much less, if any, than a first line center...which the Pens can't afford, nor should they really try to. Haha.

Haha. I don't think he can be a true 1st liner elsewhere. 2nd line absolutely. If Bylsma would have done the obvious and put him on Malkin's right wing (with Neal on the Left), he could thrive and come negotiation time, they could always guarantee him that top 6 spot with either Sid or Geno. Idk, we'll see. I really don't have that much interest in these playoffs outside of Nashville unfortunately. I loathe watching Philadelphia and I could really care less about the rest of the eastern conference.

I'm hoping Holland does something to keep up with all he other teams in the West. He said "there will be changes" but we'll see what he does. Jordan Staal would definately be on my wish-list aside from Parise and Suter (If either of them make it to free agency) but I'd be good with Doan, Semin (to play with Datsyuk), Smyth or really anyone available that will make our Top Six better.

Loving the winds of change. Pretty crazy that one of Nashville, St. Louis, Phoenix or LA will be in the cup finals.
Send Staal over to Calgary, he'd be a first line center here, considering what we got.

3 out of the 4 most recent Stanley Cup Champions are eliminated in the first round. Who would've expected this? Just need to get those pesky Bruins out (sorry fattic) :/ Haha
Those Semis in the West are gonna be exciting matches, much like the Quarters were. These playoffs are so unpredictable. So exciting! Quick vs. Elliot, Smith vs. Rinne... wow!

I apologize to any Panthers or Devils fans, but this is probably the most unattractive series in the playoffs. I really have no interest in either team.

Very insightful, informative day from Canucks.
- Cody Hodgson was traded because he was high maintenance and was built up to be traded. - Luongo will waive NTC if asked. - Zack Kassian was one of 6 young players on Gillis' list for Hodgson. - This will be a very active off season, imo for Vancouver.
Go Preds, i guess.
