I am 23 years old and they were to expensive for me let alone kids. You are basically paying 5$ an inch almost for a figure. Its just not worth it, and they are even limited edition or anything.
No walk thru collector will pick these up either. If i never collected wrestling figures and was with my cousin, nephew or whoever little and happened to see a Bret Hart i might be like oh that's cool i'll pick it up for 10-12$ to throw on a shelf. Not for 30$ people wouldn't.

I love the stuff I have, but I feel like it's pointless to collect something that will soon be "uncollectible". The purpose of collecting is to watch your collection continue to grow and get bigger over time, but with all the good lines dying out, what's left to really look forward to? I still want my Foley, Nash, Booker, Neidhart, Crush, JYD, Horsemen, Ahmed Johnson, Razor Ramon, Classic HBK, Doink, Tito Santana, etc but without having to buy them in limited stock online, at their 5hit website that locks up all the time, and I want variety in attire, not the ONE attire they randomly pull outta their asses that we have to just accept (see Slaughter, Snuka, LOD, Funk, etc) but yet we have tons of Macho Men and Warriors, only because JAKKS DIDN'T DO IT. Dear Mattel, please stop trying to be a "NOT JAKKS" company and be a "MATTEL" company. Give your damn fans what they really want, hell, we're the ones buying the 5hit!!!

I just don't believe that all of these repaints are actually selling. If 8 year old Timmy already has an Orton, Cena and Mysterio then why would his dad buy him another...and another...and another...and another just because he's wearing blue this time!? You don't get it. There are lots of Timmys who still don't have an Orton, Cena or Mysterio. Timmy only has one birthday a year, so he might only get figures in August then again for Christmas. The different Cena, Mysterio, Ortons aren't all selling to the same kids, but there's always new kids coming into stores every day with a birthday. That's why there always need to be figures of the popular guys on the shelves.

All in favor of a Mattel collecting strike until they promise to keep producing DM and reduce their prices, say "I"...

When I walk into Walmart or TRU and all I see are racks and racks of Cena & Orton then that tells me they aren't selling...even Timmy isn't buying the 5th Orton repaint of the year.

I'm not surprised. I thought these things would fly off the shelves but I've noticed a lot of the same ones I saw last Christmas marked down or collecting dust. It seems that not enough people were willing to part with $23 a fig.
Oh well, farewell to the greatest line of figures ever produced. Maybe this will drive up the prices of DM on the secondary market?

Here's hoping DM5 hits retail. If I could only own one Mattel, it'd be Bret Hart. Just order it on the MattelShop site for retail price... Bret Hart isn't listed anymore.

But they are selling, and very well. Then they get restocked very often. Especially the Basics and Flex Force figures of the "top" guys. I see it quite often during my hunting: Freshly stocked Rey and Cena figures being near sold through in a few days at some stores while the Swagger sits and gets pushed to the back of the pegs while more CenaMysterioTaker gets restocked.

Kinda happy in way that this line is cancelled as it was very overpriced 25.99 -29.99 in stores. A few stores were 22.99 or even from mattel shop. If the price was a little lower it would have been a better selling segment. 20.00 like the entance greats would have been fine

If that's the case and people aren't buying them, they'll stop making them. Just like they did with mass-retail Legends and now Defining Moments. So there's no sense in us bitching about it, because ultimately sales dictate what lines stick around.

Well, this is disheartening...the broken promises are kinda getting old. I mean, How long did CS last? I mean, they don't have rights to Ric Flair or Hogan at the moment...but still. All the names they COULD make. Mattel seems to use Legends as a COMPLETE afterthought. There are so many iconic characters and attires that aren't going to make it. I have a sinking feeling the Flashbacks won't last very long. and then the number of Legends dwindles to about 6-7 (depending on if they give us tag teams) per years. Oh well, it saves me money. I have a feeling my collecting days might be coming to an end in the not too distant future.

I'm starting to lose interest as well. I never thought I'd buy wrestling figures again, and then I stumbled across legends 1. I was really excited to see where Mattel was going to take the line, especially when I heard things like this was going to be the most complete wrestling line of all time. What a disappointment it's turning out to be, starting to regret I even started. I will say Mattel without a doubt makes the best wrestling figures I've ever seen. Too bad they can't figure out how to run the line. I'm not giving up quite yet, but it looks like Hasbros Star Wars line is going to start getting more of my money again. Here's hoping that DM gives way to another similar series. Maybe they decided the name of the line limited who they could include in it so they're changing it ? Hoping something positive comes out of it.

I often wonder who came up with these prices. For $25 we should be getting Eddie Guerrero with his lowrider or Del Rio with a car that they could fit in. With the way the economy is going the prices should be lower than Jakks since people have less money to spend.

Holy Crap, Slowly But surely there will be no more legends, next it will be the flashbacks being cancelled, then the onlines being cancelled, then the elites will be cancelled and mattel will eventually only sell rumblers and flexforce

I feel dumber for having read this thread. A slap in the face from Mattel? Seriously? Do you think they're discontinuing DMs just because they want to? I'm sure if it were financially beneficial for them to continue them, they would. Mattel has done all they can to get legend figures out there. They tried the Legends line, they tried EG, they tried DM, they're trying flashbacks. They do NOT hate the collector market. They've done everything they can to please you. They even come to these forums and listen to ridiculous requests like Elite Nunzio figures. Be happy that you got the great figures they put out while they were able to.
The problem was in the price, obviously. I guess Mattel could have cheaped out in order to sell more figures, but then there would be a mass uproar about that too. Like when they took the stands away. They're doing what they're doing in order to preserve the quality of the figures. Would you rather have good figures that you have to buy online, or bad figures that can buy in stores?
Mattel is a business. They can't just magically produce these figures. Some day you will all have to step into the real world and learn how money works.

In all fairness...the guys from Mattel have stated a few times that they cut the stands to keep retail prices the same. Yet the retailers went and raised prices anyway.
So either Mattel increased their cost...or the retailers realized they could make a bigger profit margin by charging a higher retail. The cost of goods is rising all over the place (plastics to make the figures, paint, cloth, etc)
Maybe instead of producing so many, they should have looked at cutting down the amount. Less figures to make = less money to spend = less cost to everyone. Either way the retailers win. They are still ahead of the online market...and people don't seem to be shying away from paying $11.99 (or more) for a Basic figure up in my area.
