just something i got to thinking about in the other thread about Terry Funk....
Shotgun Saturday Night debuted in January 1997 from various New York bars, nightclubs, and other locations (though it was in Texas the night before the Royal Rumble), and was immediately edgier than most WWF programming at the time, with highlights including Marlena flashing her tits, Terry Funk cursing on air,the Flying Nuns making a mockery of the Catholic religion, and in a memorable moment had the Undertaker tombstone HHH on an escalator...
so,my question is,do you think this was just an experiment,or was the actual beginnings of the WWF's attempt at pushing for the Attitude Era? was this Vince's first attempt to see if people would watch a more adult WWF product?

I am not really sure actually. Jim Cornette talks about it a bit in the Timeline for 1997 thing he did (also, Marlena had tape over her nipples says Cornette, so she wasn't even really flashing).
I have the first 6 Shotgun Saturday Nights on dvd just cause I love how they have an ECW vibe to them. The yellow ropes was a nice touch too.

I always hate that I missed Shotgun Saturday Night back when I first started watching wrestling back in 1997. I think it was one of those shows that I just never knew was on. I always caught Livewire and Superstars though so I'm not sure why I missed Shotgun.
It seemed very interesting though! I never knew about the Undertaker/Triple H escalator Tombstone until the "OMG" DVD.

Shotgun Saturday Night was awesome. I remember as a kid forcing myself to stay up to watch it. Sometimes I fell asleep before it would come on though and I'd be so disappointed. I do however remember watching Undertaker tombstone Triple H on the escalator and marking out.
