When DDP debuted in the WWE back in 2001 there was a huge reaction from the crowd when he was revealed as the mystery stalker. However instead of building DDP up to the main event as he was in WCW DDP was largely forgotten about after the Undertaker feud. He was given that awful Life coach gimmick and was the European Champion(A belt largely not cared about) He then quitely retired from the ring. My question to you guys is how would you rebook DDP's WWE run?

I think DDP was fine at first. He came in strong against Taker. Was in the main event at Invasion, then had the tag title run with Kanyon against Taker and Kane. It seemed after that, DDP became an after thought of sorts.
Maybe WWE felt that DDP was too old to go anymore. I think they missed out on DDP.
A real cool idea would have been to have DDP leave The Alliance and go Team WWE. If Austin could go Team Alliance, why can't a main guy go Team WWE??
Even having Austin vs. DDP as a main event at a ppv would have been good. The Stunner vs. The Diamond Cutter. I think they could have gotten a bit more out of DDP than what they got with him there.

DDP was brought in a jobbed out to Taker every time they saw eachother. When they first met at KOTR 2001, Taker kicked his ass for 15 minutes, w/ DDP getting in no offense what so ever. He was turned into a jobber before the Invasion PPV for christ sakes. He was then pinned by Taker's friggin wife, and then him and Kanyon were destroyed by Taker and Kane in that cage match at Summerslam.
The whole thing was booked wrong from the start. For beginners, DDP being the stalked made no sense. We all knew that he was married to Kimberly from the nitro girls, and she was one of the hottest divas from either companies. Why the hell would he go after Taker's horse-faced wife Sara. Also, DDP getting the crap beaten out of him every single night didn't help him either. After KOTR, his first meeting w/ Taker, nobody took him seriously again. He was a jobber after that.
Had I booked it, I would have just had DDP come out of the crowd one night and hit the Diamond Cutter on one of the WWF's top stars, either Austin or Taker. Then, in his first match with one of them, I'd have DDP win...cleanly. What better way to give credbility to one of your two top guys in the Alliance than to have DDP, a proven main eventer in WCW, go over Austin or Taker cleanly. It would have given him instant credibility and put him on par w/ the WWF's top stars.
After that, I'd probably have given him either a WCW title or IC Title run. After The Rock defeated Booker T for the WCW Title, I would have booked him against DDP in a People's Champ vs People's Champ match. Rocky would get the first win, and then DDP would have taken the title back, and eventually have dropped it to Jericho, who was going to get it anyway.
Nobody from WCW got screwed more than DDP. Nobody.

I think he was booked poorly in the WWE. DDP vs. Jericho could have easily been a co-main event and sold well. WWE and DDP didn't fit well, and it's good that DDP was in WCW in the 90s.

Dude ended up retiring a year later anyways so no real good would have come from pushing him to the moon if hemwas leaving shortly anyways. People seem to miss the point of the whole invasion storyline was to bury WCW ( the same company that tried to put away the WWE) to hell. If it was WCW 1997-8 vs wwe then i would understand, but this was WCW 2001 we're talking about, making that POS joke of a brand lookmbetter than the home company would be the worst thing WWE could have done. Plus by that point wwe secured all the good talent they needed from them benoit, eddie, jericho, booker t, rey. Sure it would have been cool to have the top wcw guys battle with top wwe stars but really what would have been the point? Nash was injury prone at the time, hall was still battling his demons, Hogan would have been good but it would have taken away from his wrestlemaina match. Sting would have been good but he wasnt willing to particpate

DDP should have been presented as COMPETITIVE.not better not worse but an equal who then got beat. and the stalker thing was dreadful.

The Invasion angle could have been so much more. DDP should have been pushed as a credible threat if only for 12 months leading onto other WCW stars. I agree they did want to look like WCW was weak but they missed the boat on the dream matches and angles they could have gone with.
Team WCW with ECW - WTF?

Lol if Vince wanted to make millions off of the angle he would have, but you also have to take into consideration that it have cost him millions to acuire some of the top draws from wcw who were sitting out contracts. Should WCW have been treated as equals? Maybe if this was 1997 then I can see it, but as I said before this was WCW 2001 they were abyssmal by this point I dont see the logic in my making them look equal to the wwe, when wwe had already beaten them in the monday night wars. Think about that, going into the angle WCW was already entering the race a dying beaten horse. And any money Vince would've made from the angle he made at Wrestlemaina 18 with Hogan Rock. So

So LOL.......so Vince didnt want to make millions??after the XFL that wasnt the plan. the buyrate for Invasion was through the roof.if he had went after the guys who were willing to work it would have broken records.........imagine if Invasion 2001 was headlined by Austin and Rock vs Goldberg and Steiner?it was possible. he screwed the pooch with stupidity.to suggest that Hogan/Rock made up for it finacially is ludicrous.its equally ludicrous to suggest this was Vinces plan. by September people were tuning out because they knew it was all over....... hell Vince didnt even do right by his own people during this period so maybe it was just as well he didnt bring in anyone else. this angle should have been milked until WM18 featuring the the big blowoff winner takes all matches. NWO and Bischoff turn up the night after WM18 and spoil vinces victory party.it writes itself.

The sad thing is that the Invasion storyline could have gone on for well over a year had it been done right. What Vince gave us was a crappy Invasion PPV that was headlined by 8 WWF guys and 2 WCW guys turned jobbers. Austin, Angle, Taker, Kane, Jericho vs Booker T, DDP, Rhyno, and the Dudley Boyz. Rhyno and the Dudley Boyz were in the WWF long before the Invasion angle started, and while the Dudley Boyz are one of the greatest tag teams ever, them and Rhyno should not have been in this match. Booker and DDP had already been made into chumps by the WWF stars, and this match was a huge letdown.
Imagine how much bigger the buy rate would have been had it been Austin, Angle, Taker, Kane, Jericho vs Goldberg, Steiner, Sting, Booker T, and DDP. It was possible. By the time of the Invasion PPV, Goldberg and Steiner would have been healed up from their injuries, and Sting was willing to join had WCW been portrayed as equals. He has said it himself. This was a huge, huge missed opportunity.
Even with the guys Vince had, he could have made it better than he did. Instead of sending Austin and Angle to the Alliance, which made absolutly zero sense at all, he should have sent Big Show and Jericho to the Alliance since they had been in WCW before. I'd have made the Alliance team consisting of Booker T, DDP, Big Show, RVD, and Mike Awsome, and then Jericho turning on the WWF in the match instead of Austin. would have been better IMO than what we got.

WWE botched the Invasion angle. Period. End of story.
It sucked....but could have been so much better. Just like DDP's WWE run. It sucked but could have been handled better.

Best post of the week goes to....TCM! Well done! Haha. But yeah, it's crazy how one of the top guys in WCW was basically treated like dirt in the WWE. Oh well.
