2) I believe that the WWF's highest grossing years were like 1999-early 2001, so even w/ the fialed XFL expiriment, he still easily had enough money to buy some of WCW's top stars like Goldberg, Nonsense. Goldberg was getting paid insane money just to sit at home on his Time-Warner contract. Those top WCW stars got crazy contracts, which is one of the reasons the company went out of business. McMahon would've had to take Goldberg on that same contract or offer him an even sweeter deal... And that wouldn't sit well with Austin, Taker etc when some guy from the dead company comes in making more than they are. There was no way Vince was going to be able to bring in some of those big names until their Time-Warner contracts expired, pretending otherwise is just silly. Anyway, I'd have done a People's Champ vs People's Champ feud with DDP and The Rock. Rock would win.

Even Booker got jobbed out IMO. During the Invasion storyline he was jobbed to everybody from Austin to Angle to Taker. He was treated as a joke champ from the start and he went from a serious character in WCW to a stereotypical black man from the ghetto in the WWE. It wasn't until Vince had completly broken down his character in mid-2002 that Booker finally started to get pushed.
But the money that they would have made had this Invasion angle been done right would have been enough to cover Goldberg and the top WWF guys. Look at the huge buyrate they got for the crappy Invasion PPV they put out, and then imagine how much money they would have made had WCW's team been made up of Goldberg, Steiner, Sting, Booker T, and DDP. Sting had stated that he was willing to opt out of his contract, similar to what DDP did, to sign w/ the WWF for the angle. That would have left just two guys, Goldberg and Steiner. Buy them out and w/ the crap loads of money Vince could have made, he could have raised guys like Austin and Taker's contracts as well.
And if he didn't want to buy their contract out, then he should have waited to do the Invasion angle. Wait a year for other stars to have been bought out. Instead of srating it w/ only Booker T and DDP as the only credible top guys from WCW, do it a year later w/ Goldberg, Steiner, Rey Mysterio, Ric Flair, Sting, Eric Bischoff, and the nWo all available.

Goldberg would have cost 6 million to bring in(no doubt the highest price of any WCW guy)...Invasion made 10 million without Goldberg...with Goldberg it would have broke even more records.

The invasion was terrible and the worst booked angle possibly ever. Well, big angle.
The only saving grace was RVD.

Wasnt wrestling's popularity at a decline as a whole by 2001? I remember the whole fad dying down around then, honestly I'm glad things worked out the way they did. It made for more things to look forward to, post invasion. Like Ric Flair showing up the night after SVS and claiming to own a piece of the WWE was awesome and added a new dimension to where the WWE was going. It made sense too why would flair bother getting involed in the angle if he had already bought shares?
Then you have the NWO debut at No Way Out, as a kid I loved this, I was so excited to see the NWO in a WWE ring this of course led to the epic hogan vs rock at maina...idk what else could of outdrawn this match.
Again hyping up the return/debut of guys like rey, steiner, and Goldberg made it that more special when they finally showed up.
Also keep in mind wwe was really focusing on creating new stars and future main eventers, like angle, benoit, jericho, edge. bringing in other top stars all at once would have over saturated the roster and hurt the build up of the younger guys.
Plus most of wcw's top guys had passed their prme and didn't have too much left on the table.
Scott Hall wasnt really bringing anything special anymore
The shorter kevin nash's run the better, he couldnt even make to mania injury free...how long would he have lasted in the alliance?
Steiner well we all saw how his run went..plus he was never ever really someone i'd consider a top draw. I don't see how he could have made the Alliance any better
Goldberg's probably the only person that I would have come in during the invasion storyline.
Hogan? I feel like if they would have brought him before 2002 it would have hurt his drawing power for that upcoming Wrestlemaina.
Sting many say should have been on the forefront of the Alliance, but I say this...you try booking him in this storyline...it would be tough to book him as a heel character, the fans would have probably cheered for him regardless (ala RVD) this would have made things look weirder seeing as he's the leader of what's supposed to be a Heel faction.
Keep in mind the Rock was out for most this angle, and HHH was out with an injury, this must of had a great affect on things aswell.
Keep in my mind this was WCW 2001 not WCW 1997
I can't say I blame VInce for booking things the way he did, if I had bought my competition, the very same competition that's main goal for the last half of the decade was to put me out of business, I would have made them look the piece of garbage that they were.
*Edit* To stay on topic... I really don't know what you guys were expecting from DDP byt 2001....The dude was retiring soon anyways, had done everything he could in WCW, was involved with some of the worst celebrity crap ever in wrestling ( Malone, Leno, Arquette) If anything his WWE run served as the proper punishment for making us suffer through that crap.

DDP wasn't planning to retire soon. He could still put on good matches, and the only reason he suddenly retired was because he hurt his neck in a match w/ Bob "I like to hurt people" Holly. Just look at the pop he got when he debuted. He was still over, even w/ a WWF crowd that hated WCW. Burrying him to Taker and his wife made no sense what so ever. I'm not saying make him the biggest guy in the company, but he was over, and he should have been portrayed as an equal to the WWFs top guys. The invasion agnle would have been better had he and Booker T been.

. Steiner well we all saw how his run went..plus he was never ever really someone i'd consider a top draw. I don't see how he could have made the Alliance any better 1)Steiner was a big and credible name. 2)Steiner was injured in mid 2002 and had "drop foot".it eliminated a good 70% of his moveset.he wasnt close to the guy he had been in 2000/01. 3)Steiner was buried by HHH and his obnoxious ing wife.they knew Steiner could not wrestle a long match but he was still booked in a snorefest with HHH(who did ZIP to try help the match)plus they were on last........and who in Gods name could have followed Angle vs Benoit @ RR03?but because of politicing they went on last. so Steiners flop run was NOT his fault.he came in red hot and was buried......end of story.he wasnt even used at WM19 for Gods sake.
