Last night, I happened to be in the general area of my not-so-local Kmart so I decided to make a quick stop before heading home. I wasn't expecting to find anything new, like normal, but this time things were different. I noticed a lot more Elites, a L4 Mr Wonderful, and a peg full of 2-packs. As I browsed through the 2-packs, I saw a promising sign; Series 11 Undertaker/Kane! I thumbed through the peg and, in the back, found them: The Usos!
I looked at the price tag and saw that they had the buy-two-get-one-free sale going on. They also had that Hart Dynasty set that I kept passing on, so I figured now was a good time to grab them and pick up an extra freebie! There were no other good two-packs that I wanted and all the tags implied that the free item could be of equal or lesser value, so I searched for an alternative. There were random E8-E9 figures, a beltless Sheamus and Drew, a bunch of Undertakers, Mr Wonderful, and a hidden Hillbilly Jim. I was tempted to grab a Legend for a potential custom but settled on a FlexForce Smash Scene. It had the dumpster accessory that I felt would look neat for my pic fed. Good enough, I take my loot and head for the register!
Well, they rang me up at $60+ for everything. I explained the sale to the clerk and he took the 2-packs over to his manager. They both came back after a minute and told me that the sale only applies to similar items. So another two-pack would've been free but the Smash Scene wasn't, despite it also being part of the sale. I thought to myself, what's the point of mentioning "Equal or Lesser Value" if you're stuck buying the same type of figure?!
Anyway, it's two-against-one and getting late, so I just dropped it. As much as that Hart Dynasty set has been tempting me, I really don't need it since I have the Elite versions. I told them to keep it, keep the dumpster (Looks like figures don't even fit inside it, anyway), and walked out with the Usos, the only set I really wanted.
Was I right in thinking that I should've gotten that free Smash Scene? This is the only Kmart that's anywhere near me and they just suck! Their stock lingers for months, their employees are never aware of their own exclusives, and now they don't seem to know how to run their own sales. The only reason I'll return is for the exclusive Tribute to the Troops sets but otherwise, I'm done with them. The 45-minute round-trip drive is such a waste!
Sigh, at least the Usos are cool and I'm glad to finally have them! It's a shame that the Elite versions are not in Mattel's immediate plans but this is a nice addition to my growing tag team division. I hope they don't end up being a Basic-only team, like the Colons!
