It's not because people don't want them. It's because people are stealing them.
I just left my local Walmart and decided to check the figures just for fun. I found Defining Moments 5 Bret Hart and John Cena. Well...sorta.
Bret Hart was completely missing and the package was ripped to shreds. The only thing remaining was the Canadian flag.
Both of John Cena's belts were missing but he was still there even though his package was ripped into two parts.
I took both ripped up packages and gave them to the guy in layaway and let him know that someone got off without paying for these figures.
This is starting to get old fast. Those figures must have just been stocked today because they weren't there when I last checked yesterday. I'm glad I didn't need either of them (already have Bret) or I'd be super pissed. Sadly, this isn't the first time I've seen this either. I found both Sheamus & Drew McIntyre at Target once but both had missing title belts.
I'm not blaming this on either Mattel, Target or Walmart. I'm blaming this on thieves who would rather steal an action figure than pay for it and it results in us (the collectors) suffering for their actions.
That is all.

Wouldnt Elites be getting cancelled soon since almost all Sheamus, Drew Mac, Kane and Big Show figures are missing their belts? And yeah, this hurts collectors more than anybody else and results in increased prices.

It's just a catchy "read between the lines" post title. I don't really think Defining Moments are getting cancelled JUST because people are stealing them.
Although, it doesn't really help the cause!

Mattel is partly to blame because the packages for Elites and DM are just so easy to open and close you can open it up take what you want and close it up without damaging the package.

I dont see how anyone could blame Mattel for any of this. If your retail stores had people with common sense and an assets protection person worth a damn, this stuff wouldnt happy. I mean Jesus christ people when taking back a product from a customer look at the product and the packaging. You can tell when stuff is tampered with and can tell Randy Orton (on the box) isnt Sheamus (figure in the package)

DM will be cancelled, at least at retail, b/c parents arent going to pay $30 for an action figure for a kid. Collectors will pick them up....but the main stream buyer is not. They are too expensive to them. To a collector....they can be worth the money like for instance the Savage.

I agree with this 100%, as much as the packaging is poorly designed to stop thieves, it's this ^

In this case, the packaging was completely ripped to shreds. There was hardly anything left.

I was at the QA at RSF, & I'm pretty sure the MDT said they are on hold in 2012, until they can be made more affordable

I'm happy nobody does this crap around where I live. The most they've ever done was silly string the figure isle. I told someone who worked there when I saw the silly string and it hasn't happened since. The silly string didn't really hurt the figure but after a little while the coloring in it started to discolor the carding and the plastic bubble. But I don't blame mattel for the stupid people who tear the box open. The Elite boxes should be changed because they are far too easy to open and re seal. It is BS though because collectors have to suffer. People steal the figures instead of buying them, so the sales go down, which leads to higher prices, etc.

Mattel is partly to blame because the packages for Elites and DM are just so easy to open and close you can open it up take what you want and close it up without damaging the package. Naaaaa!! lol this been discussed in depth multiple times and Mattel has no part in the blame.. its all the store security.. esp being a wal mart they should for sure be watching this by now and know too watch for ppl.. My wal Mart busts shop lifters everyday and if they get away, they know who did it and will catch thme next time they walk in.. It dont matter what Mattel packages the figs with, if a thief wants it, he is gonna get it. You must have missed the really in depth Speech last week about it but yeah, i know ppl who stole PS3's, 360's, DVD's, CD's, Clothes, Video Games, Computer Games, hell i know a couple who was stealing computers from wal mart years ago just filling up a cart and walking right out the store and loading thme in there car and taking off lol so Mattel cant do nothing about this. Its all the stores fault You did the right thing though and told the store employee and showed him it. YOu should have really bitched about it and showed your disgust even though you already had both of them let them know that you cant believe of all the wal marts in the country that yours is letting ppl get away with this every time, when other wal marts are catching criminals everyday.. they would feel like crap and start watching more then and check back on tapes and stuff. Another great example too buy online though for me. So what price is a little steep, imagine if someone traveled 2 hours just too go see if that Wal Mart had bret Hart and had too spend $30 in gas too get there and sure enough they had him alright, But only the package lol your out that $30 and gotta go try somewhere else or hit them up another time. Im just glad my packages arrive safely and i dont have too deal with anything like this crap.

I have a feeling that elites may go to basic style packaging if this continues

I think ther real reason for it's cancellelation was the price. Parents aren't gonna pay that much for 1 figure for there kid, when basics are cheaper (since the majority of sales are kids, not collectors) But this probaly contributed to it.....It's a shame. First EG and now DM

Well I could buy a dm for 30-40 bucks in canada or a legend for 20 - 25 bucks. Its the same figure sometimes but with $10 worth of clothing.
I love the accessories but the extra $10 price tag hurts sales. They should re-launch dm's without all the packaging, without the stands and nameplates, and without all the accessories, just make them the same as elites, some with accessories, some without.
At 30 a figure you would never see guys like the warlord who weren't big enough stars to sell at 30 bucks but had enough accessories to fill a dm box
Dm's should just be regular elites w regular accessories, but with slightly different themed packaging, with their 'moment' printed on the back

They should just release DMs on Matty.com every other month just like Legends. If Legends cost $20 on Matty, DMs should be 30 right? I love the whole DM concept, packaging, accessories, etc. Can't believe it's done!

Well at $30 for a DM that pretty much explains why people steal them. It's simply because they cannot afford to buy one, so if they can't afford one they use the 5 finger discount. I don't buy DM but I'd be pissed too if I went to buy one and the packaging was all torn up and no figure.

Why would they do that? lol ppl can still steal them no matter what. All ya gotta do with Basics is take a knife and slice out a 3/4 of a square on the bottom of the plastic bubble then pull the bubble out and it does no damage too the package really. Barely looks like it was ever opened. I know this cause i just recently started doing this too my basics and legends i order online too keep the packages in better shape for future use since i save them all.
Also, i actually dont mind that DM's are gone. They were starting too get better and i did like them just like everyone else, but for $30 it was not a big sale too them. We can get the same legends now in Flashbacks for half the price and Mattel would totally have better luck selling more that way im sure. With the amount of ppl on these boards who complain about spending too much on figures in general, you figure this would be something everyone is happy about. Now, getting the same style figures for alot less rather then Mattel supposedly raping your wallets as you all say. I dont get it sometimes, one minute im on here everyone is complaining about prices being sooooooooo steep and calling Mattel and RSC crooks, then they start too do something about this by making DM's available as flashbacks to save everyone money and ppl want too pay those steep prices now again??
