A 'Where's Wally?' movie is to be made by MGM.
The book series, which features pictures of crowds and requires readers to find the titular character - known as Waldo in the United States - will be made into a family motion picture.
MGM President Jonathan Glickman said: "We are thrilled to be bringing the search for Waldo to the big screen. Along with our partners at Classic Media, we look forward to making a worldwide adventure that will appeal to 'Where's Waldo? fans of all ages."
Eric Ellenbogen from Classic Media added: "Waldo is the most searched-for character in the world. With thanks to MGM, fans everywhere will find Waldo in movie theatres with his motion picture debut."
The character - renowned for his red and white striped top and hat, and for walking with a stick - has sold 55 million books in 38 countries.
He is now even prevalent in the world of smartphone apps, having been downloaded more than 4.6 million times.

I can see Carmen Sandiego, not Where's Waldo. How does the plot actually work? Is he kidnapped? Can they make it a thriller instead?

Do you look for him on the screen? Spoilers: He's between the wheel barrow and the giant candy cane with blue pants on in the left corner.

Of all the things to make a movie out of. How would this even work?

Is it just going to be 2 hours of a scrolling screen of scenery and in that 2 hours you have to find waldo or watch the film again until you do?

If they made it as an Epic Drama/Thriller it would be hilarious.

2 Hours of a Where's Waldo picture and then a scary face pops up and a loud scream is heard.

Well, if Clue can become a movie...and a funny one at that, I'll give this a try.

There was a cartoon series of Where's Wally over here that had the wizard whitebeard character and a villain named Odlaw(Waldo backwards) and from what I remember of watching it as a kid it was pretty good. I think he went on quests searching for scrolls and that sort of thing? And Odlaw was always trying to thwart him. They could easily make a movie along those lines. Whether it would be any good or not is another matter.

Does anyone remember the 91 animated series? They can always just follow that theme: Waldo has his dog Woof with him./ Wizard Whitebeard needs Waldo's help and uses his magic to help him travel through different times and lands. The whole while his nemesis Odlaw trails him trying to steal the magic walking stick etc....I could see it being in this format.

It could work. If you actually read the books there is sort of a storyline.

Very odd choice for a movie.
