I'll let you in on a little, well-kept secret in the WWE confines. About 11 years ago, shortly after the King of the Ring tournament ended, I attended a house show that featured the headlining match, The Rock defending the WWF Heavyweight Championship against Bull Buchanan. Buchanan's reaction tore the roof off of the building (literally, part of the ceiling had started to collapse due to the loud vibrations the fans gave off as they roared for their favorite superstar).
Well, it turns out Vince McMahon happened to be backstage for the show (a rarity for house shows) and he decided to change the result mid-match, realizing that Buchanan needed the Championship ASAP. The Rock had thrown the elbow pad into the crowd, but upon coming off the ropes, was met with a scissor kick to the chops. Buchanan pinned the Great One in the center of the ring, clean as a sheet, and the crowd went ballistic. Babies cried with joy, adults had their faith in life renewed, and couples started having sexual intercourse right in the stands.
Unfortunately, upon getting backstage, the Rock was not much of a team player. He threw a fit backstage and threatened to leave the company. Seeing as how much money the Rock made off of merchandise, and that Bull Buchanan's patented "Grab the Bull by the horns" t-shirt had yet to be approved, Vince had no choice but to give the Rock the belt or suffer major instant financial loss. Bull came out immediately, microphone in hand, and relinquished the belt to the Rock. He then grabbed a microphone and asked the crowd not to mention this to anyone, as he doesn't want to cheapen the next time he would win the World Heavyweight Championship. Bull then stated that if the Rock messed with him again, he and all his Buchananites would "put boots to asses" and take the belt back (in case you're wondering where the Rock got his catch phrase from).
Unfortunately, politics got in the way of Bull's historic rise to the top, as Vince was not content with Bull "shooting" on the crowd. Such is the backstage business in the WWE, but I will never forget the smile across Bull's face as he defiantly held the WWF Championship in the air, tears streaming down his face.
