King Of The Ring 96. One of the biggest moments in wrestling history. Austin had a great tournament. The match vs Mero was a banger. Vader vs Jake did what it needed. The finale made Austin look like a real piece of sh**. The promo is art. Ahmed put over as a next big star. Mankind vs Taker was so good. Mankind is my favorite Undertaker opponent. Warrior vs King was garbage. Tag match was fine. Main event was good. Owen was sooooooo good on commentary. Good event. Man you aint kidding. He was such a natural in the heel color role. He was quick with the whit, so many good one liners, but also called the action so well. Constantly talking about how old Jake is was a favorite.

It wouldn't surprise me if after his wrestling career, he could have made a transition into the booth. I think he would have done well in that role.

Steamboat vs Savage @ WM3. Great stuff It's insane how well that match holds up. 75% of WWF matches before 2000 are basically unwatchable, but this match is ageless.

International Incident. It was fine but outside continuing a few storylines, nothing really special. Sid back to replace Warrior worked. Vader is slowly being built but knowing where it leads is a bummer. Mankind is built like a pure monster and I love it.

They undone Vaders pinfall victory here by having him run from HBK after the match. Summerslam was stone dead there and then. my last match was involving Sid too. It was vs Bret vs IYH: Its Time. Good match and HBKs agenda commentary and the events after it were great.

Funny The Brain mentioned Inoki in trivia today, I took the wayback machine to Super Monday in Yokohama from 8/8/88
We start with a video package about Rikidozan, which then moves into one about Inoki showing his career highlights. I’m not sure if I’m correct, but I remember hearing that the speculation was that he’d retire if he lost in the main event.
Riki Choshu & Masa Saito vs. Manny Fernandez & Buzz Sawyer
Not a bad little match here with Choshu carrying most of the weight. Decent back and forth action is shown, but the majority of this one is clipped up. Saito gets the win for the team with his backdrop suplex on Fernandez.
IWGP Jr. Title Kuniaki Kobayashi vs. Shiro Koshinaka (c)
A quick 9 minute sprint here, that’s pretty decent. I’ve enjoyed seeing Koshinaka as a junior, he seemed much peppier back then compared to his days as a heavyweight. Koshinaka gets a successful defense out of this one with a backslide.
Bam Bam Bigelow vs. Vader
A big brawl in this one, much to everyone’s surprise I’m sure. For what it was, it was an entertaining match. All hell breaks loose as they fight in the crowd which leads to a double count out, which may have been a safe finish to keep up the image’s both men had at the time.
IWGP Title Antonio Inoki vs. Tatsumi Fujinami
I’m sure most people know that this one goes the full 60. The first 20 minutes were very heated with them teasing possible finishes of Inoki winning quickly. The next 20 were spent working the mat with a variety of leg work. The final 20 has them again working the near finishes again, this time with Fujinami being the one coming up just a little short. After the match the two men embrace in a moment that seems to be a passing of the torch and an end to Inoki as a threat for winning anymore titles. It’s just an awesome moment with the crowd going nuts for the two men. What I’ve written here, gives the match no justice and I’d encourage people to see the match for themselves.
Now we’re treated to another Inoki video package with somber music to almost signify that this may have been the end for him. Of course we all know the end would be another 10 years away. Also, a little of the after match celebration is shown and they’re drinking Pepsi! Where’s the traditional beer?

Royal Rumble 1995 & 1996.
1995 is very pedestrian....Vince should have made his roster do double duty in it.
1996 was a good bit better but still very weak in places.

PTW 12-14-92 Matches include Savage/Taylor, Repo/Shango and Cassidy/Skinner.
12-21-92 Final holiday edition of the show. always loved the festive set they would have. Not much going on here but we would get the first Steiners interview plus the announcement of Raw taking over in January.

Royal Rumble 1997: Excellent Rumble....booking is powerful here IMHO.
Royal Rumble 1998: not as good as 97 but when it heated up it was great. Austin coming through the crowd was good sauce!!!

Love towards the end of it when Bret is eliminated him going off at Vince at ringside. And to top it off his promo the next night on Raw... Man just all around masterful storytelling.

Royal Rumble 1999:
entertaining stuff & having Vince win it out from underneath the dominant Austin was ballsy. Speaking of Austin? That's some reaction for him when he returns in ambulance. Fun all round.
Royal Rumble 2000:
I often wonder why Vince didn't just have Rock win this outright instead of this? Fun RR though with plenty of good spots & a piping hot MSG crowd.
Also I can't watch RR2000 without seeing HHH vs Cactus. Good grief...what a match. Both men leave it all in the ring...Rick's interference was clever too. Didn't impact result, was popular with crowd & keeps issue with HHH alive.

Royal Rumble 2001:
Great Rumble. Cracking showing for Kane & it's a pretty star studded affair.Austin's win was what they wanted...popped huge.
Royal Rumble 2002:
Great Rumble too in fairness but the crowd wanted Austin. Air got sucked out when he was eliminated. HHH got a decent reaction for winning but now what the returning hero & new point man should be getting. Really enjoyed this one.

Him in the last 3 was an added bonus. Makes me wish his life was in order and he got another run as IC champion.
