they annoy the hell out of me, and even worse, when they have a remark for you when you are coming out of a store and are putting change away in your wallet and you dont put any in their red jar thing. like seriously, if i had the extra cash to give away to the homeless/less fortunate, i'd go to salvation army and donate, or donate through an actual organization, not just put money in a jar, where god only knows where it goes after that

I thought it was weird when the other bell ringer was talking to me about putting in his 40 hours for the week and getting overtime. I guess some people get paid. I thought it was all volunteer work I would think none of them are volunteers. I mean think about it, why go do something for free when you can get a pay check? Would you go volunteer while the guy next to you is getting paid?

I volunteer as a bell ringer every year. I've never heard of anyone getting paid.

Yeah, damn those annoying people that take time out of their day to stand sometimes in the freezing cold, for the sole purpose of entertaining those that walk by and hopefully convincing them to donate a few coins or dollars to a much better cause. Yeah, those annoying people, right? I hate this message board sometimes.

Believe it or not, but people actually do do things out of the kindness of their hearts, and because they care about the cause and not the money.

Another reason why people suck Christmas is poop. (Because of this thread, not the bell ringers) Wow, really? They're volunteering their time to stand out in the cold to collect money for the poor and you hate them just because you think they're annoying. Proof positive of the kind of ed up world we live in. And no, I don't hate them I admire them for the things they do for the less fortunate. Couldn't agree more or have said it any better.

As long as the poor and less fortunate aren't openly gay. But, sorry, you were talking about proof positive of a f*cked up world? Are you telling me that the Salvation Army doesn't help people that are openly gay? I was unaware of this. That's exactly what I'm telling you. But it's ok - they're volunteering their time, so they are the class acts of society, and we, the dregs that dislike them are the ones who are causing the downfall of modern society. That said, I think the American public should reevaluate its opinion of those involved with Second Mile - after all, they're a charity and on the surface, they allege to do good things, right?

Never really had anyone come door to door to do anything like this, just the odd foreign student now and then trying to sell cards for money. No.

Seriously though, yes I understand people do volunteer time, money, whatever to charitys. Im just saying, if you volunteer, and soon after you find out others get paid, would you not also want to be paid? Or would you out of the kindness of your heart remain off the payroll?

I am still volunteering this year as well even though I found some people get paid and I'm not getting anything. It feels good to give a little back if you can in some way.
