www.suntimes.com/9181255-417/chicago-church-objects-to-new-gay-pride-parade-route.htmlIm curious to see what board members think. This thread is not ment to bash either Gays or anyones religion. It is just me sharing a peice of news to see what people think. Basicly in Chicago there is a Church which has given Sunday Mass for 125 yrs. There is a chance though that for 2012 for one week in June the church might not give Mass. The problem is that the Gay parade plans to reroute to pass right in front of the church. Parade organizers also plan for the parade to run earlier for 2012, so not only will the Parade run right in front of the church it will run right in front of the church during Mass hours. One of the main concerns of the church is that the area is already congested as it is. So when Parishioners come they will not be able to park, aside from having to strugle though the crowds. Like I said this area is very congested already as it is with out Mass or a parade. I imagine it will be a sea of people as folks go to church amoung the million or so parade watchers. I am not a homophobe, if two men/two women want to be togther I dont care. Now that said I will give my opinion. I strongly dislike these gay parade plans. For decades the parade has been on 1 street, the gay street in Chicago. So them changing the parade to a new street and changing the start time is beyond me. What I do feel is that Gay people are already discriminated against, and then you hear storys like this. Wow, I dont hate gay people for being gay, but I do hate them for this. I feel its like them trying to shove Homosexuality down the throats of people with faith. So what do the board members think? Are you on the side of the church or of the Gays?

I'm guessing more than just the church would be effected by it but of course that's the only issue here you are trying to push is gays vs church.

As far as Ive heard the church has openly complained about the parade because the Church is the only place around that will have thousands of people going. Aside from the church everything else around there is a buisness or residential building. I just wish I knew the reasoning for the Parade to change its route, and time?

Yeah I'm not a homophobe, I just think their trying to annoy the church. Why change their street + time? They want fights, by what this looks like.

Yeah I'm not a homophobe, I just think their trying to annoy the church. Why change their street + time? They want fights, by what this looks like. I agree. It seems like they want attention. The sad thing is that im sure some gay people will look at the church's discontent with the parade plans and try to use it as the church hating gays. I wish they would say why the change in street. The street the parade has been on for decades has pretty much all the gay bars in Chicago. I'll go as far as saying every business on Halsted is gay friendly if specifcally meant for gays. Its the only street I've ever seen with male mannequins wearing female clothing in window fronts. It even has these totem pole looking things on every block with the raindow colors on it, put up by the city. ![](http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rPD4XZy5rA0/TgU9O0G-_lI/AAAAAAAADOo/zxd1YldPHYc/s320/gay%2Brainbow%2Bpole%2Bhalsted%2Bstreet%2Bchicago.jpg) Halsted just seems like the perfect choice for the parade, and it has been for decades. So why they changed it, Id like to know.

I thought they paraded to try and get equal rights, they pretty much have them now so why still parade? Or am I off the mark?
To be honest thought I don't see the big deal, so the church misses a mass? Just hold it on another day. Too many people complain about every little thing anyone does, there's no such thing as freedom anymore >.>

"Last year nearly 800,000 people attended the Chicago Pride Parade, which was one reason organizers decided to amend the route to accommodate the influx of people and provide more CTA train and bust entry/exit points" "the church's laity could still attend mass my entering via the back of the church via an alley and access on Broadway." chicagoist.com/2011/12/01/lakeview_church_says_new_pride_para.phpSo they changed it because so many people came and the church can still have mass they just have to enter the church from a different entrance. So it's really a nonsense story. The parade gets their route and the church can still have their mass.

Btw I don't hate gay people, I hate it when gay people use their sexuality as an excuse to get sympathy and attention. I don't parade around everywhere that I'm straight, why would a gay person need to do it? It's as if they have something to prove.

Wouldn't it distract the mass? Is the parade loud? If so then they're distracting people in church, right?

Did the parade deliberately re-route this year? In that case the parade is wrong. Does the parade always have the same route and cause problems but the church got tired of dealing with them this year. Then it's the church's decision and I have no problems with it.

Sounds like the parade was re-routed.

Last year they had 800,000 people come and it was too much for the original route so this year they rerouted the parade to accommodate more people.

Am I the only one somewhat offended by the phrase "the gays"? Something tells me if I referred to a large group of African Americans as "the blacks" or a group of people from Jewish decent as "the jews", that particular group of people wouldn't enjoy being so blantly labeled.

I hate when people say, "They're not black people, they're African-Americans." Though you can call a white person 'white' Why isn't my grandmother called an Italian-American, and my grandfather a Polish-American?
