Yesterday Miguel Torres, a guy that's actually nominated for the 2011 MiddleEasy Award for 'Tweeter of the Year,' made a rather strange joke regarding a hypothetical rape van. Since I'm horrible at attempting to tell jokes, here's exactly what Miguel tweeted to his followers:
"If a rape van was called a surprise van more women wouldn’t mind going for rides in them. Everyone like surprises." Just a few minutes after he made this statement, he deleted the initial tweet and replaced the word 'rape' with 'windowless.' The former WEC champion still received outlash from a number of media members, along with an influx of people on Twitter that were offended by the statement and identified it as 'insensitive.'
Bryan Armen Graham from Sports Illustrated sat down with Dana White today and managed to break some incredible news regarding Miguel Torres -- specifically that he was fired from the UFC completely due to his now infamous 'Rape Tweet.'
"This morning I’m on [Michael] Landsburg’s show, up here in Canada, and he hits me with the quote of what he tweeted. Now there’s no explanation for that. There’s absolutely nothing I could say to make any sense of that. And the fact that he even thinks that’s funny or that’s a joke, it disturbs me. It bothers me. Again, you’re dealing with a guy that’s a smart guy, that owns his own business, that’s been one of the top fighters in the world forever. And I cut him today. He’s no longer with the UFC."
"It’s being announced right now to you. You’re the only one that knows. Miguel Torres has been cut from the UFC and his career with us now is over."
That same day, Rashad Evans made a joke towards Phil Davis that involved a 'child rape/Jerry Sandusky' reference, but as of tonight no action has been taken on the potential light heavyweight title contender. Of course, the moral of the story is simple -- don't make idiotic statements...especially in public.

I'd imagine he got cut from his response when confronted about it.

I am not saying it was wrong to release him, but why does he get released but not Forrest? I think both coments they made were equally bad.

Apparently he was quoting It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. I have never seen that show, so I don't know.

Wow, seriously Dana? Who freakin' cares. People are so freakin' sensitive these days, I swear. It was a joke. Was it funny? Not really, but it doesn't change the fact that it was a harmless joke. It wasn't directed at someone specifically. If I were to get punished for some of the obscene and explicit stuff that I sometimes write on Facebook, then I'd probably be on death row right now. Dana is starting to remind me of Roger Goodell lately with some of his "punishments".
If the guy said something like that in the octagon in a post fight interview or while being interviewed or something, then maybe I can see an argument. But why is he being punished for saying something from the comfort of his home? I swear, the 1st Amendment is being crapped on lately in this country.

Thanks for the video. That just made me even more mad. I didn't even know about the comments from Rashad and Forrest and the fact that he didn't or doesn't plan to punish them but FIRES Torres is so wrong. It just makes Dana come off as a huge hypocrite. I like Dana alot, I usually agree with everything he does and says but not this time, he's wrong on this. He just made his very weak bantamweight division even weaker by firing one of the top contenders. He talks about "the benefit of the doubt" and forgiveness and leniency, but still does this? In the words of my favorite NFL player ever "C'MON MAN!"

I love the ending "Will Rashad Evans be punished as well?" "No." It does seem unfair. I don't think they should have fired him. I thought they fired him because maybe he was unapologetic when confronted, but it turns out Dana didn't even talk to him, someone else did. Whereas he talked to both Forrest and Rashad after their comments.
I think he'll be back sooner than later though.

Definitely unfair and hypocritical. Nice to see Dana up on his high horse about rape when this is the guy that said "Any ing guy that won't put his name on it, first of all, whoever gave you that quote is a **** and a ing ****** and a ing liar and everything else whoever gave you that quote. Or maybe it's you, Loretta, maybe you're the liar writing bullpoop ing stories." And then just said "I'm only sorry that I offended homosexuals". It's gotten to the point where the UFC is basically Dana White's plaything. Shame, really. Looks like Bellator just got one hell of a big signing.

Forrest jokes about rape, gets off free.
Rashad mocks child rape, referencing Penn State to insult a Penn State alum, gets off free.
Miguel quotes a damn TV show, gets fired.
At the very least, if Miguel was fired over that, SOMETHING needs to be done to Rashad.

This is shocking to say the least. I'm usually a pro-Dana guy, but I think this is a little much.

...so he gets fired for something he said... on Twitter? Seems very harsh. It looks like he's been made the scapegoat, after the earlier Rashad and Forrest comments...

torres getting cut is absolutely redic, i dont understand why dana got so butt hurt over this. there has been worst offenders than what torres said. rashads PSU joke during a LIVE PRESS CONFERENCE FOR A FOX SHOW was much worse, but dont forget, rashad evans brings $$$$. forrest griffin said something else about rape, but, since he pretty much could do ANYTHING and get away with it since him and bonnar had the TUF fight, it didnt matter. if miguel torres was more of a money maker, he would still be in the UFC. i want to see torres back in the UFC.
