I've always wondered who other fans of the Hasbro line felt was the most glaring omission from the early years of the line.
I missed the managers the most, probably Bobby Heenan, followed closely by Jimmy Hart.
Who did you want, but not get???

Barbarian in fur and antlers attire. He's the one key superstar that got snubbed by both LJN and Hasbro. It would've been nice to see this figure in the series with Warlord, Sid, and The Mountie.
A case could be made for Dino Bravo or Hercules, but Barbarian is the one that would've made the most sense in the Hasbro timeframe.

How can you not put Duke "the Dumpster" Droese into that list? Another one I miss (more LJN-era): Jim Powers (to go with Paul Roma).

My main ones I always wished I could get as a kid was The Orient Exress as there matches with The Rockers were my favorite tag matches as a kid. Out of the list I have to go with The Barbarian closely followed by Haku.

The one I miss most in the Hasbro line is a Hartfoundation Jim Neidhart. Have never understood why Hasbro never included it in the line. He and The Hitman were the TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS!!

I was dissappointed when Hasbro didn't make Barbarian and Haku. They were never main event guys, but they were consistently on TV and PPVs.

I have plenty that I want from 1994/95 that were never made, but in regards to the early days?
Definitely the Barbarian and a HF Neidhart. Managers would have been nice looking back now, but as a kid, I would've preferred wrestlers over figures in suits any day.

i have to say Red Rooster. it was a horrible gimmick, but Terry Taylor was a great wrestler and he deserved a fig. still does.

As time passes I think the perspective gets lost on exactly who would've been wrestling in the WWF at the time of the Hasbro figures.
The Brain Busters would not have been included in the line since they were finished in the WWF in late 1989 and Hasbro started making WWF figures in 1990. Owen Hart was not doing the Blue Blazer gimmick during that time period either. A more updated Owen could've been included in the last few series of Hasbro figures. Powers Of Pain were already singles wrestlers by the time Hasbros came out (split in early 1990), too, so Powers Of Pain figures would've been outdated. And Big John Studd's last WWF run ended in 1989, also too early to be included in the Hasbro line.
Diesel is maybe the best choice now that you mention it, though he wasn't on the list. At the time he was getting massively popular and it would've been better to have him in the green card lineup over someone like Ludvig Borga, perhaps.
I'd still rather have had that Barbarian figure.

right before hasbro lost the license
these were rumored to include
Diesel

USA Lex LUGER
Bob Backlund
Men on a mission
the diesel was actually made because the Head was leaked to one of those dollar store lines about 7 years back...
any one else remember this legend?

Yes, I remember that. It has also been referred to as the "black card" series, as I recall. I've heard it rumored that the lineup was supposed to have another Bret Hart and Bob Holly, too. It's all speculation from what I can tell. That Diesel head that Mannix used for those knock-offs was nice. It makes all the sense in the world that it was a stolen Hasbro mold, since there's no way they would've gone to the trouble to mold a Diesel head themselves. |
