Hearing that ECW chant during Raw's awesome opener last night literally gave me chills. I can't lie, almost got a little misty-eyed. It's nice to get that warm and fuzzy nostalgic feeling once in a while. Fantastic opening.

Yep. Because its never been chanted other than then. It's probably the second most popular chant behind "What?!".

I loved it too, Punk was definitely hinting at it and the crowd picked up on it. It was a nice little addition to an already awesome opening to RAW.

Those are the kinds of crowds i love. NY, Phily, and Chicago are the best crowds

honestly they should of been chanting ROH. Which is what Punk was prob aiming at That's what Punk was talking about, at least that is what I gathered. The fans just started chanting ECW, which is pretty funny when you think about it. Punk's whole thing with Bryan was that they were two ROH guys standing in front of the Philly crowd, down the street from where the first ROH show was held, as the two top guys in WWE.

Yeak the look on Punk's face made me think he was surprised when they chanted that.

I must've missed it. And it makes absolutely no sense considering there are no ECW orginals in WWE.

Exactly. I don't understand why someone would think it didn't make sense. When most people think Philly wrestling, they think ECW. Like others have said, ECW wasn't the only promotion to run shows there, wrestling heritage in Philadelphia dates back WAY before ECW. Punk and Danielson are as synonymous with ROH as Tommy Dreamer and Rob Van Dam are with ECW and ROH has been/is a huge part of Philly wrestling, but ECW is going to stand out in Philadelphia more so than ROH, especially when talking about history.

No matter what you think, Punk was not referring solely to ECW. Period. When I think Philly, you know what I think of? The Philly Spectrum. An arena ECW never came close to.

But no matter what you think, because ECW never came close to the Spectrum doesn't mean that ECW isn't as important to Philly wrestling as the Spectrum or anything else having to do with wrestling in Philadelphia.

I didn't think ECW at all, it was him and Daniel Bryan in the ring, and he mentioned where and when they met, that's all ROH. The crowd was just stupid and chanted ECW (which is fine, but not at all what Punk was getting at.)

Nobody is arguing that Punk said that, but you are taking it out of context to make it sound good for your argument. Punk and Bryan Danielson met in Ring of Honor, in Philadelphia. I loved ECW, but that had nothing to do with what Punk was talking about.

Yes Punk talked about both himself and Danielson in ROH, but he talked about Philadelphia wrestling in general before he spoke of his and Danielson's history. The crowd's ECW chant came before his talk of ROH as well. I don't understand why some think the crowd's ECW chant doesn't make sense.

The fact of the matter is this. If he was talking about old WWF, or ECW he wouldn't have had to HINT at them. He's not allowed to mention ROH on tv and that was obviously the point he was getting at. Furthermore, you can't blame the crowd for chanting ECW.
