I often feel that WWE talent would stand a better chance of getting over with decent commentators putting the talent over on television as opposed to people like Michael Cole burying them all.
I know Cole is just doing his job and is fed the lines he says, but I think its just becoming stale now, I think he just goes on and on constantly burying talent and its really affecting some of the wrestlers when it comes to getting over. Cole is been given too much talk time. If they don't use JR then I think WWE needs a lead commentator who knows about wrestling and can help get talent over much like JR did through the attitude era. You don't need to be a heel and bury all babyface talent that you see, this never happened with Ventura, Heenan, or Lawler.
WWE commentating has just become crap now adays.

Michael Cole is dire and Lawler seems like he is feeling out of place, he isn't as open as JR. But no doubt WWE don't see the commentating as a reason numbers are dropping.

Jerry Lawler and Michael Cole suck donkey balls. Give me Good ol' JR and Booker T and you've got commentary gold right there.

Michael Cole needs to stop commentating and become a Manager, hell maybe even a GM. I'm tired of his burials too. He said negative things about Punk, Ryder, and Bryan all last week but before as the show went he was all Mr. nice guy.

I allways thought Matt Styker did okay as a WRESTLING commentator, I thought he put moves and stuff over really well.

Jim Ross/Booker T on RAW Josh Matthews/Matt Striker on SmackDown.
Perfect right there.
Jerry Lawler could start being a more active wrestler again. I honestly enjoy his in ring work and if Ric Flair can still wrestle, why can't Lawler?
Michael Cole can go be someone's annoying manager.

But you see everyone knows not to listen to a word that comes out of Michael Cole's mouth. If he says Bryan is crap. Then he is obviously good. You should have got that by now.

Years ago, the commentators got into the matches, treated them as if they weren't pre-determined, acknowledged the superstars' talents and actually called the action.
Nowadays, it's [Cole: 'Oh my God look I'm trending on Twitter again, haha the fans love me, unlike that ner- hold on let's just wait for the inevitable kick-out- yeah that nerd Daniel Bryan, nobody likes him!'] I know WWE isn't a real sport, but on the other hand it's not intentionally put across as a big pre-determined, scripted, soap-opera. It used to be a treated like a big deal, now when you listen to Cole it sounds like he turned up to work to yell and brag and big himself up. In others sports, you don't hear commentators ignoring half the action while they talk about themselves. Cole is why commentary is so bad in my opinion, simple as.
Very rarely anymore do we hear anything like a 'By God, he kicked out, he kicked out, he kicked out!! I was certain that was the end right there.' More often we instead get 'Oop and he kicks out again.'
There's just not enough enthusiasm. None of it seems like it really matters. It's all 'Hur hur hur let's bury the talent, the other commentators, put myself over and call all of 2 moves, wrong' from Cole at least.

I agree. I'm not sure what the main problem is but I know Michael Cole's character would work way better as a manager than a commentator. I like Booker T in the sense that he is funny, but he doesn't work when nobody else is calling the moves. They need to go back to a play-by-play guy and then a color commentator. One guy should be calling the action and the other should be goofing around or playing the heel or making us laugh imo.

WWE commentary sucks. period.
They take any commentator that has an ounce of enthusiasm and they neuter them, usually through removal from Raw or Smackdown.
I'd be fine with removing Cole, Matthews (he's lost touch), Booker and Lawler and replace them with JR, Joey Styles, Matt Striker, JBL, and guys who can identify and put over star quality when they see it. Guys like Michael Cole and Jerry Lawler are the reason guys like Jack Swagger, Drew McIntyre, Trent Barretta, Justin Gabriel, Tyson Kidd and so many others can't get to the next level. Hell, the whole roster can't get over and a lot of that relies on the commentators.

Booker and J.R. have qualities that, if brought together, would make for a great commentary team. But Cole is terrible.

Jim Ross, Jerry Lawler and Jonathan Coachmen was a great trio. You had J.R doing play by play, and then you had two color commentators, one putting over faces, the other putting over heels, and it worked perfectly in my eyes.

There isnt a single good commentary team in wrestling today.
Cole and Lawler are turning people away from the product left and right. It's hard for anyone to get over when Cole will bury them and Lawler wont call Cole out for his comments. The entire thing is Michael Cole getting himself over and yelling and being obnoxious. He's not a GOOD HEEL, he's a terrible commentator that used to be very good. There is 0 play-by-play with those 2.
Cole, Booker, and Matthews is a train wreck with Booker T saying the dumbest thing he can think of and Cole yelling at him for it with Josh struggling to get any words in regarding the match. The little bits of giggling when people cut funny promos is also atrocious.
Tenay and Taz are awful as well. Not so much in that they cant commentate, it's that they have 0 charisma and its blatantly obvious they dont care about the product they're watching.
Commentary needs a drastic overhaul in 2012. I'm fully convinced ratings declining are on Michael Cole telling viewers things are terrible and that you shouldnt watch.

I honestly enjoy his in ring work and if Ric Flair can still wrestle, why can't Lawler?Michael Cole can go be someone's annoying manager. Cole could be someone like Drew McIntyre's manager or someone else and get them over exactly like what Vickie Guerrero did. It would be perfect but unfortunately WWE won't do it and we'll be stuck with an annoying commentary team. Booker gets overly excited and hardly makes any sense.. Josh Matthews is just an idiot. JR I would LOVE to have back, King is washed up and doesn't seem into it anymore, If you want the real answer to a good commentary team look no further then...

I actually like Michael Cole when he's on Smackdown. Other than when he rants about Daniel Bryan, he's actually pretty funny with Booker T. I say if the RAW commentary team was Jim Ross with Jerry Lawler (or anyone other than Cole since I can't stand Lawler now a days) and the Smackdown commentary was Booker T with Michael Cole, I would enjoy the commentary better.

You had J.R doing play by play, and then you had two color commentators, one putting over faces, the other putting over heels, and it worked perfectly in my eyes. Great comment. The same should be happening on Smackdown but it's all about the individuals involved.. If Michael Cole could be serious for a minute, he could do the play-by-play, let Booker T put over the heels (because he knows what it takes to win!) and let Josh put over the faces as the messenger of good intention... but Cole is Cole so maybe Josh can get his head out of his own ass and watch some tapes or the matches. Do the play-by-play, let Booker illustrate what the good guys are good at and have michael cole support what the heels do so well. Still, you have to many flaws in the booth. Put Michael Cole backstage put Josh Matthews on a WWE Network program and bring Joey Styles out of retirement he knows how to work with a doofus like Booker.

I completely agree. In fact a few weeks ago on Smackdown, during one of the matches all you could hear was Booker T arguing back and forth with Cole and Rhodes. It made me so angry. The fans don't watch the show to hear the annoying commentators bicker with each other, they watch for wrestling. And it's the commentators job's to call the damn match.
