Honestly, I can understand if you don't like the guy, but to hate him seems a bit harsh. I don't really understand what's to hate about him to the extent I read about.
I've seen him in a handful of films and have thought he's a pretty decent actor. I've enjoyed everything I saw him in.

I don't have anything against him personally. However he is a chronic over-actor who stars in some very poorly written and directed films. If you enjoy cheesy cinema, you probably like him. If you are a fan of well crafted screenplays and award winning acting, you probably can't stand him. I stand in the middle.

Honestly, the last film I enjoyed of his that wasn't over-done or cheesy packed action with explosions was The Ant Bully... & that was animation. He's insane, and can't control his money.

A counter argument to those who may hate Nic Cage: Exhibit A: Exhibit B (You may have to refresh the page once it loads)

I like him. I can watch anything so his movies don't really bother when they are just generic action movies

I honestly didn't know people disliked Cage. He is a comic book guy and always seems to make fanboy comments so he has always been alright with me. The Rock, Con Air, Snake Eyes, FaceOff, 8mm, Gone in 60 Seconds, National ing Treasure, Lord of War, Kick Ass, Next, I mean the guy has been awesome in some really great or entertaining movies. Yeah, there have been some weird ones, or stuff that wasn't for me but in general I think Nicolas Cage is a pretty good actor.

I like him. I think the reason so many people don't is because (as stated above) he just seems to sign on for whatever role that comes his way and doesn't seem to care.
On a side note, I watched Con Air last night and The Rock two nights ago.

Probably because of how evident it is that he got into hollywood through his family ties, and has very limited substance when it comes to the actual case of acting.
Saying that, I have to thank the guy for giving me my most hilarious cinema experience when watching The Wicker Man. It got to the stage when I was laughing so badly it actually hurt. He was also pretty good in Kick Ass. But just take a look at his IMDB list, aside from a few good flicks, his filmography could well be one of the worst to date.

I havn't seen the original wicker man, just Cage's one and I thought it was pretty good.

The only movie I liked with Cage is The Weather Man.

almost every film ive seen him in (with the exception of national treasure and kick ass and maybe one or 2 others) is either a bad movie(wicker man, season of the witch, drive angry) or i think that the movie would be a lot better with someone else playing his role (ghost rider). so really he just hasnt given me a reason to like him

I like Nicolas Cage. He makes some good movies. Really like Con Air, Face/Off, Snake Eyes, Drive Angry and The Rock.

I like Cage, hell I'd even say that I was a fan. Face/Off is an incredible film, so fun and action-packed, and 8mm, what a film, so dark and sinister, but damned good. Con-Air is another classic action film, he's just so good at the action stuff, hell I even liked Ghost Rider, which means I might well be the only person.

Pretty good as in "this is so hilariously bad I enjoyed it" or pretty good as in "this is a quality piece of cinema?"

I really enjoyed The Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call. It's a crazy film and I think the acting is good. Cage over-acts alittle bit, but it's acceptable in this movie, imo.

he's just a goofy actor to be honest. i liked him in kickass because it fit..but in movies like face off it's almost unbearable how ridiculous he acts.

Pretty good as in the story was interesting and it had a good twist at the end, and I enjoyed Nic Cage in it.

Adaptation and National Treasure were quite good.
