I was looking at my collection of over 1000 WWE figures recently and I got to thinking that maybe over the years i've gone a bit overboard
I have figures of guys I never even liked in wrestling (Billy Kidman, Tank Abbott, Heidenreich) and I have tons of figures of the guys I really did like (HBK, Steve Austin & of course CM Punk)
It got me to reflect on my collection (going 5 years strong now) and what exactly do I expect out of this massive money sucking hobby
My question up for discussion is, what kind of collector do you think you are? Are you the person who buys complete sets, every set, all the rings and accessories because you have the space, the time, the money and it's just awesome? Are you the type who likes to complete sets...but won't buy re-releases and figures of superstars you're not a fan of? Are you the type that's just satisifed with having 1 of each or the best version of each superstar? Or what else?
Just thought it'd be some interesting discussion.

As of right now, I am just buying figures that look cool, so pretty much just ones I like.

I just buy guys I like. I can't see myself putting down money on a figure for someone I don't like.

I only buy Legends/Flashbacks as I don't want wrestling anymore, and only guys I like(d) as I am not a completionist.

I only buy one of each person that I like and I try to get them as an elite. If they make a drastic change to the attire or something better comes out I'll buy the new one and sell the older one.
If I have someone on the current roster and they get released/fired I sell off the figure. It just doesn't look right having them next to others when they aren't there anymore. Some collectors keep them on a separate shelf but I don't have the room for that.
The only exception I've made when buying more than one is on the older guys. I have both the EG HBK & Rockers HBK & all of the Warrior's they have made.

Whenever I get started on a line, I feel like it's unsettled until I've completed it. I think that it might be a touch of OCD or some similar mental irritation. I'm currently 6 figures short of having completed the Legends set, and once it's done will stick to new Legends until something else catches my eye.

Completeist. I started that way with jakks ra and then sold them off for a nice chunk of change and regretted it once i sold them. I used to collect complete MOC which took up a ton of space. I now collect Complete loose but do have certain thing MOC like all of Legends MOC, Most 1/1000s MOC, The 3 Packs MOC, The Box sets MIB and so on. I don't have a ton of money but i manage it wisely and pay for all of the things that need taken care of and then i buy my figures. I thought it would get rough with having a new baby but ive stayed current and have been pretty lucky at finding things at retail price which is helping me save.

I normally buy figures of whom I'm a fan of, but sometimes I'll pick up a figure if it looks cool or something.

I buy only who i'm a fan of, or what looks cool. These are usually people I don't have in Jakks form. I was just thinking about how the gaps in my collection indicate what roster members I don't give a crap about.

I only get figures of guys I am a fan of, or was a fan of growing up. I have, on occasion, just grabbed figures I thought were cool, the Usos, but those are a rare exception.
