I want to give the WWE credit for the Invasion angle, sure it would have been better if the Invasion was led by Goldberg, Sting, Hogan, Nash and Hall. And it is very easy to look back now and say hey that sucks they could have done this they could have done that, however watching it at the time I actually loved the whole angle while it was running.

I always felt Evan Karragais could have added something. Too bad he never got a chance.

Their biggest mistake (other than who they didn't sign) was letting Bagwell go.

Their biggest mistake (other than who they didn't sign) was letting Bagwell go. Meh, I wouldnt call it a big mistake, I thought Bagwell was overrated as a performer and was never really a fan of him, all he really brought over to WWE was his name status which I guess wasn't really enough to compensate for poor performances and a childish attitude. But thats just my opinion, you have yours and I respect that.

Apparently he was let go because he wore that hat after he was told not to. He was a fairly big cheese, and a solid wrestler (even if his match with booker was a dud), I think he could have had a good run in the wf.
In fact he was one of the biggest names they aquired. And the Invasion angle really could have used some bigger wcw names (no Steiners, Luger, Hogan, Hall, Nash, Savage, Hart, DDP, Goldberg).

He got fired for more than just that, he already had heat along with Booker for there bad match but people were more p'd at buff because of his ego. He also no showed at an appearance and had his mom call in sick for him (in all fairness his mom also acted as his agent) he also had his mom to call WWF to complain that WWF wrestlers were getting limo's etc and WCW guys wern't. By this point he was really on the shitlist and then he got into a fight backstage with Shane Helms and that's when he got fired.

Bagwell had charisma and a big ego. That was about it. He never really had any memorable moments besides being Steiner's "man servant." Didn't mind the WWF letting him go but would have been cool to have seen him return w/ Scott Steiner in 2002. Those two always worked well together.

yeah Buff was fired for more than the hat thing.his attitude was said to absolutely stink.they wanted him to go to OVW(with others)to keep sharp until the Invasion story started proper and he wouldnt do that either.
but getting ol Judy to ring in sick for him........that was surely the end.

I think one of the issues with the failure of the invasion was a simple opinion of the workers themselves.
Wwf wrestlers were called superstars, wcw wrestlers were called stars. It didn't matter who it was, that was how jr and king referred to them on air, so how could they have had a shot when they were buried from the start.
It was also clear from the day wcw came to raw in force that there would never, ever be a time when wcw was an actual contender for a real takeover. You can't have legit drama without the chance that someone, anyone can lose.
Alas, I still kinda enjoyed that summer of tv though.

The Invasion angle could have been one of the greatest story lines of all time, had it went down properly.
Hollywood Hogan, Scott Hall, Kevin Nash, Goldberg, and Sting vs Steve Austin, The Rock, Undertaker, Kane, and Triple H would have been something to see, that's for sure.

It was pretty much doomed from the beginning, I know the lack of main eventers didn't help but I'd put alot of it down to WWE ego, from the get go they burried all the WCW wrestlers and gave them all generic jobber entrance music. WWE should have put ego aside and tried to build up the WCW wrestlers more, I think the Invasion storyline could have at least worked better if they had more to work with.

Putting Austin on the Alliance was one of the dumbest things the WWF did during the Invasion. Austin failed at a full heel turn for months because he was so over, and we all knew how much Austin hated WCW in real life, so putting him on the Alliance was just plain stupid. The Alliance Team for the big WWF vs Alliance match at the Invasion PPV was stupid too. Rhyno had been a mid-carder in the WWF for months, and the Dudley Boyz, while a great tag team, shouldn't have been in the match. W/ the guys Vince could have used, I would have put Big Show on the Alliance and done a match of...
Austin, Angle, Taker, Kane, Jericho vs Booker T, DDP, Big Show, Awsome, RVD
Instead of Austin turning, Jericho would have turned instead since he was actually in WCW and rumor has it that it was origionally going to be Benoit and Jericho joining the Alliance before Benoit broke his neck the month before.
This atleast would have given the Alliance more credible names in Big Show and Jericho instead of just one in Austin. Awsome would have also given the Alliance more credibility by just being in this match. Obviously Booker and DDP wouldn't have been jobbed out and have been made to look on the same level as the WWF guys. Had it gone down like this it would have set up the following feuds...
Austin vs Jericho for the WWF Title
Rock(when he returned) vs Booker T for the WCW title
DDP/Big Show vs Taker/Kane (DDP would have gotten some wins instead of jobbing to Taker and his wife, and most importantly, NO stalker gimmick)
Angle vs Awsome
RVD vs Jeff Hardy (RVD could have gone back to his great feud w/ Hardy after this match)
Edge/Christian could have held off their split for alittle longer while they feuded w/ a heel Dudley Boyz team, and guys like Lance Storm and Test could have been great in the mid-card(I actually liked Test during the Alliance angle).
Just how I thought it should have gone down. Anything though would have been better than what we actually got.

I lost all faith in the Alliance when Kurt Angle, Christian, Test, Molly Holly and Ivory joined.
No disrespect to that group of talent but it just made no sense. Not only had they never worked for WCW/ECW but you had enough defection story line going on with Austin and Regal. Having lower card talent defect just watered it down.

Molly Holly had worked for WCW, she was one of Randy Savage's valet's in his 1999 run, known as Miss Madness and later Mona

Instead of putting ECW and WCW talent in high profile roles, they just used midcard WWE talent, what about that doesn't make sense to anyone? ?? Really though, I hate talking about the Invasion, what could have been is so disappointing.

jesus, why is everybody is simple minded about this, do not dare blame vince for not bringing Hogan, Hall, Nash, Goldberg, Rey, Steiner, etc over right away and thats why the invasion agle failed. He wanted to do the angle, while the sale was still fresh in everyones minds. All of the time warner contracts were million dollar deals, that vince didnt want to touch, hell i am pretty sure if he bought all of them out, he would have filed chapter 11 the next year. he let the guys who were getting paid the time warner contracts wait out until the contracts were over, then signed for WWE style contracts for lesser amounts of money, Time warner and Ted Turner were Money whores who didnt even bother to find out who was worth the cash they paid them.
He used all the guys who were under contract for the angle. it failed because the WWE fans didnt give a rats ass about WCW, and the WCW fans hated that vince bought them out, so they didnt watch. PERIOD

there were only 24 contracts absorbed from WCW when it was bought out, so that list is surely overly complete. Don't think the referees were in the 24, and Hudson wasn't for sure, as he was paid on a per appearance deal with WCW. DDP also was not one of the 24. He was on a Time Warner contract, and bought it out himself to go work for the WWF because he knew he didn't have long left in his career and didn't want to waste it sitting at home. Jarrett was in the 24, but was getting so grossly overpaid by WCW that his contract was bought out and he was released (rumor has it, this buy out is the money he used to start TNA)
There were 10 contracts WWF couldn't touch at all. it wasn't up to them. The Time Warner guys. Nash, Hogan, Goldberg, Sting, Luger, Page, Flair, Rick Steiner, Scott Steiner, and I believe Tank Abbott.
So subtracting the 10 they couldn't touch at all, and adding the 24 they got with the buyout, plus the 10 or so they brought in on their own (Kronik, Laringitis, etc) who was left in WCW that they would have wanted? Vampiro? Konnan? The only ones that can really be argued are Rey Mysterio and Psicosis, and it wouldn't have made sense to bring Rey in at that time, as a heel
