Check out undeadpress.com.
They're a partner company of the publisher I work with. They're doing a rather ambitious project to start things off. 365 zombie stories in one anthology. I have written two for it, but I know they are looking for more as the antho JUST opened up. So, if you like to write and you like zombies, I urge you to give it a shot. The stories they're looking for are between 1,000 and 2,000 words (VERY short). So, if you just enjoy writing and would like to see something of yours in a real book, please consider it!
Otherwise, lets make this a topic about what folks like to write or are currently working on! I remember in "Novelember" a few people here said they liked writing.

This is interesting. I wish I could find more things like this. Thanks for the heads up. I like to write and I love Zombies.
I hope Booker T writes one.

I would like to start writing scripts, I'm on a film course so it will be apart of it. But I haven't really got anything started yet.

It's what I'm going to school for. I'm a poet, but have also written short stories and screenplays.
Does this publisher pay for the short stories? Or they're just collecting and showcasing them?

From the looks of it, you don't receive any sort of payment for this one. However, there's a different anthology they're compiling that requires 3,800 word short stories, which "pays" you with a free copy of the book. They also get exclusive rights to your story for a year, so I'm not too sure it's really worth it. Honestly, unless you really want to see your stories in print, I think it would be a better idea to just release whatever stories you write as E-books, even if they are free. At least you'd own the rights to them.

Especially if you're going to put out any bigger projects down the line. I'm glad to see a few people here are interested in submitting. I have a feeling its going to take a while for 365 stories to fill up. I may write one or two more myself.

At least you'd own the rights to them. All of that is pretty common when it comes to publishing short stories. The common thing that all of my creative writing professors said was that, "No one pays for fiction anymore," and they're referring to this; the fact that most presses pay you with a free copy of the finished book. It's rare and very tough to make even decent money from a short story. If you're looking to publish one, you're moreso A.) looking to gain experience in submitting/publishing, or B.) just getting your name out there. I checked out that site the other day when I saw it in your sig, JPD, but I don't think it's for me. If I happen to think of any zombie stories over the course of this year I'll keep it in mind, but that's not really my forte.

Bennet, you could keep WWE out of it and just use pro wrestling event or something. It might save it from being axed due to trademark issues, etc. Interesting concept. Never written a zombie story... I guess I should try. Thanks for the link!

That's a good idea with zombies coming through a crowd at a wrestling show. Just keep copyrighted stuff out of it. No WWE, Undertaker, Chris Jericho, etc. etc. etc.
Make up some names and make it work. The publisher is always looking for original ideas with zombies, so if something like that was well-written, I'm sure he'd be all over it. The last time I spoke with him, he was telling me about a story he'd accepted and how much he loved the originality of it.
I'm really glad a few of you may give this a try! Let me know if any of you have any questions about submitting. And, MAKE SURE you READ the formatting guidelines. He's very strict about it.
