round 4 was all condit. his movement is great, hes circling well, instead of backing straight up like he was those first 2 rounds. 38-38... 5th round for the belt.

very close round 5... nick diaz gets it. striking was close, lean condit a little on that... but he took his back, relatively easy infact. couldnt get much going with it, but it counts just the same... 48-47 diaz.

finally got a chance to read the thread... seems like we're all split. it seems the elusiveness/running away thing is what people are bitching about most. i thought condit was very tentative those first 2 rounds, and then once he started circling about midway through 3rd, he started to look crisp, and i thought he was the better fighter. that round 5 was very close, they both looked solid in the strike game... perhaps i overvalue taking the back, but its not like thats something that happens in every single fight. you take someones back, thats significant points, especially if it was close striking... though i thought if it stayed standing, i probably wouldve leaned condit.
i have to see diaz' post fight interview now. and thanks for posting the new ufc entrance montage 91, i was about to go look for that as well.

Rounds 1 and 2 go to Diaz
Rounds 3 and 4 go to Condit
Round 5 goes to Diaz.
I don't see how it could be scored any differently. I felt the card was very "meh"....Kinda regret ordering it....

Rounds 1 and 2 go to Diaz Rounds 3 and 4 go to Condit Round 5 goes to Diaz. That's how I scored it, too, but I don't really mind Condit getting the decision. Diaz didn't do enough to warrant bitching about losing. It was close either way.

SOOOO glad Condit won! He outworked Diaz in every round imo. I got a kick out of Diaz's speech, which he totally ripped off from BJ Penn hahaha

First of all, Condit won the fight. But to say Diaz was a sore loser with no class means you know nothing about Diaz or didn't listen to a word he said. He has been doing this sort of stuff for a long time for one, so this is nothing new. What Diaz spoke about tonight was the transition of MMA to a sport more about science and gameplan over just going out and fighting. Within the context of MMA rules I don't think you could argue that Condit won but the reason Diaz said what he said is because he is a guy that wants to FIGHT and he sees tonight as a representation that it has become less about fighting your opponent and more about executing a gameplan to "win." It was clear that while Condit won he didn't really come to a "fight" but only came to win at whatever cost or however he could. This makes me think no less of Condit but I understand Diaz's frustration over the changing of guys wanting to come out and fight one another. People can talk about not wanting to see Diaz anymore because of his talking but don't start crying when Condit and GSP come out and try to "out-gameplan" one another and it ends in a boring snoozefest. Please get over yourself. To say that Nick Diaz can string together rational thoughts to create some intelligent in sight into the evolution of MMA is laughable. Diaz is a Brawler, and a damn good one at that. However, you need to have intelligence in this game now and it does not take any to sit in front of some one and swing. Is Condit expected to fight his fight? That's what sounds like you're saying. Every sport has a game plan in it. Foot ball, MMA, Basketball. You are trying to attack your opponents weaknesses while playing to your own strenghts. Which is what Condit did. Diaz struggles with grinding wrestlers and apparently fighters who can move and not play into his game. And please, do not be so naive to misconstrue Diaz's temper tantrum for anything other than what it was- a temper tantrum.

Once again... those numbers don't tell the whole story. What that Diaz scored one take down and did NOTHING with it? I think that Take down is being way over valued. I actually could give a crap... Condit one Diaz lost. Diaz had a temper tantrum. I laughed the end.

FWIW, I gave round 5 to Condit... I thought he was landing the better strikes and clearly winning the stand-up. Nick got the takedown in the last 90 seconds, but couldn't really do anything with it - and Condit actually managed to get on top near the end of the round. It was a close round, but I don't think the takedown cancelled out Condit's good stand-up work. I can see why some people scored the fight for Diaz... I guess a lot of the scoring issues come from which style you prefer - but to me, Condit was constantly frustrating Diaz while landing the better shots. People seen "running/back-peddling" but what I seen was evasiveness. Diaz has made a career out of pushing guys up against the cage and body blowing them out and has done it to pretty much everyone he's fought since his "career revival" in Strikeforce. Last night reminded me slightly of Edgar/Penn I. Was it some terrifically exciting fight? No. But it had a very technical aspect to it. There was blatantly a game-plan laid out there and you seen it develop beautifully throughout the fight. Same as last night. I seen Condit doing something nobody has done in years...not buying into Diaz's games. I wholeheartedly admit that it was a razor thin close fight. But ultimately I scored it for Condit and so did the judges. Despite being taunted and called a bitch every 30 seconds, Condit stuck with it and I'm damn proud of him for doing so. He deserves it. Great post... sums it up perfectly.

i know what i am about to say will ruffle some feathers but i don't like the current trend of mma fights.
fighters in the UFC seem so f***ing afraid to lose their job since UFC has pretty much become a monopoly that the fighters don't come to fight. They come to win by points.
People citing other sports and their utilization of gameplans seems a bit silly to me. This sport was brought about to see which technique would win when pitted against each other. The boxer vs. The wrestler...judo vs. jiu-jitsu...etc etc...and at the end of the day it is a FIGHT. Winning by points IMO should be the absolute last alternative to a win, it shouldn't be the gameplan from the get-go.
I especially get a little disappointed when I see one of my favorite fighters actually turn around and run away. I don't want to sound like your typical affliction wearing douchebag but I never saw this fight going 5 rounds.
People talk about how Condit's performance was similar to Machida? Not at all. Machida avoids damage by circling away..not actually running...and the strikes machida does land have some power to them. I can't think of any shots from Condit that looked like they had power. Most of the shots were while he was mid-air or backing up.
I am not a Diaz fanboy. I just never thought I would see Condit fight like that. Sure diaz has amazing boxing but Condits technique is better. I saw this being a back and forth battle with Diaz winning by sub or Condit winning by tko. I am just a little disappointed. I hope to see a rematch someday...

I guess these fighters wouldn't know anything us guys on a wrestling toy forum wouldn't know. I like the Compubox/Compustrike numbers being brought up. This isn't boxing, this is MMA. There are a few things listed in the criteria of who wins a round, and striking is just ONE of them. What about cage control? Running and backing up isn't "control". What about takedowns, grappling, grappling control, aggression, etc? I love Condit, but come on now.
