I was recently on set for Sony Screen Gems’ Resident Evil: Retribution in Toronto, a visit in which there was ample opportunity to talk with much of the film’s cast and crew (full report coming soon). While most of the conversation centered around the most recent installment’s returning cast members and globetrotting narrative, there was one inevitable topic that kept arising - the future of the franchise.
The Resident Evil franchise is one of the lucky few in which the box office grosses just keep going up - and with that trend not looking to die down with the current installment it seems as if it’s (almost) a foregone conclusion that Part 6 will happen. In fact, director Paul W.S. Anderson already has a story in mind (it would be the completion of a trilogy cycle started in Afterlife) and there was even discussion of filming parts 5 and 6 back to back (a discussion which was admittedly abandoned early on).
While there isn’t a script yet, here’s what director Paul W.S. Anderson had to say on the matter. “There was an early discussion about [filming 5 and 6 back to back], but we just decided to focus on this movie. But if we made another one I do know where it would go. And obviously it would be great to do two full trilogies and just bring everything to an end.”
Would the sixth one be a finale then?
“Yes. Definitely. Unless of course no one goes to see this one”.

I really enjoyed them, loads of people dont because theyre not as true to the games as they should be, STAY AWAY FROM RE: EXTINCTION (3) (terrible film) and RE: Retribution (5) is out in september

I can't wait when they reboot this franchise. Seriously. Well, if they're rebooting Spiderman, I don't see why not with Resident Evil. I would like to see the video games, I remember playing the first Resident Evil... That was some scary crapfor a 12 years old kid in 1996. I still watch these Resident Evil movies, they're so bad but so good in cheese factor. Hah.

He says as he snickers under his breath. He knows that's not even feasible.

I personally enjoyed 1 and 4. 2 is meh, and 3 had some decent parts but was overall pretty terrible imo. 4 is my favorite so far. And for the record, I'm a huge fan of the game franchise, so I'm not sure if that helps or doesn't. 5 looks a little crazy so I guess we will see. 4 left me wanting more but I couldn't tell you if I want 6 to happen before I see 5. I'm just at the point where I judge each one of these on an individual basis even though it's one big ongoing saga.

When I read the topic I thought, "wow, they made more of these movies after the second?" Followed by, "why?"

funny how someone who made arguably the best video game adaptation ever (Mortal Kombat) could make such a awful franchise, they need to reboot this with the original mansion storyline from part one especially the dogs through the windows (scariest vg moment ever)

Being a huge fan of anything Resident Evil, I'll see what ever they put out. Granted I think the movies are decent at best with the first 2 being my favorites.
I do wish they would reboot the series and actually stay true to the story. I was so upset to see Nemesis made look like such a bitch.

Resident Evil franchise > the two shitfest Mortal Kombat movies
If they do stop making live action RE movies I hope they continue with the animated ones.

I must be alone in saying that I enjoy the films. I could leave the 1st one, as to me, it drags, but the other ones are really intriguing to me.

I enjoy the Resident Evil movies a lot, I hope the 6th one isn't the last one.

I would love to see the series rebooted with it sticking close to the storyline of the games. These movies are terrible. I want Nemesis to be the relentless killing machine, not to have a last minute change of heart because he kept some of his "humanity". I would love to see movies based off the first three games.
