Hey guys!
So I KNOW this has probably been brought up in the past but I don't have a clear cut answer on my end.
When Sean O'Haire arrived in the WWE he had a lot of really intriguing vignettes where he would talk about everything from taxes, religion, adultery, etc. and would always finish with the line "I'm not telling you anything that you don't already know".
It was pretty cool stuff at the time and I was curious to see what they would do with his new character. I remembered him vaguely from his run in WCW and his Seanton Bomb was always a cool finisher. Anyway, he debuted on Smackdown and tried to get Dawn Marie to flash. Then he did...something...with Roddy Piper. What happened after that? His character seemed to have so much potential. I know he ended up doing MMA but what led to his WWE release? I don't even remember him doing anything remotely as interesting as his vignettes.
This is good stuff:

I wasn't watching during this time, so I really can't answer your question in any way but damn, those are great. I think today's the day I'm actually going to look up some of this guy's work.

I don't know about his gimmick but I was told he got fired and then became a MMA fighter but I have never seen him fight.

The gimmick ended when he became Piper's lackey. I rally don't know the logic of that as those vignettes were great. But basically WWE sent him to OVW then decided to release him. I guss they just decided he wasn't what they wanted. for anyone interested though, here's a pic of him from 2010

I was a big fan of O'Haire and thought that he could have been the #1 heel in the WWE. Though he was green in the ring early on, after spending time in OVW, he came back better than ever. His "Devil's Advocate" gimmick had a ton of potential, but I heard that he couldn't keep a straight face whening doing promos and mic work at house shows, so the WWE dropped the gimmick and made him Piper's lacky before his gimmick even had a chance to get going. After Piper said some controversial things about the WWE in an interview, he was fired and O'Haire was unfairly punished as well even though he had nothing to do w/ Piper's comments. That added to the fact that he was known for having a bad attitude backstage, and the WWE let him go.
Shame thought because hes another guy added to the long list of "what ifs" in the WWE.

Why did they stick O'Haire with Piper anyway?
If they were confident enough in him to carry these vignettes alone then why give him a mouthpiece?

I think cordless answered that, he could carry the vignettes but couldn't pull it off in front of the live crowd, well according to WWE. I thought O'Haire was ing awesome. Probably my biggest "what if" in the time I have been watching WWE. He is definitely in my top 3 "what if"s for sure. The guy had tons of talent. I'm pretty sure he did the MMA thing for a short while and then started doing personal security for celebrities. Not sure if he is still in shape or not but I would love to see him come back for a quick second.

Yeah, O'Haire was pretty underrated. Shame they didn't do more with him.

He did not have mic skills, charisma, or the ring skills to be a star. I don't get the appeal.

The guy had the look, and could put on during some vignettes. He just wasn't hugely over.

I thought those vignettes were cool, I was a fan of Sean before this, but I'm more of a fan now. He could really worked well as an IC or World Champion with this gimmick, sad he got released though. I used him a lot in HCTP!

for anyone interested though, here's a pic of him from 2010 Firstly, lol at that. Secondly, I'll come right and say I think Sean O'Haire and his vignettes are two of the most overrated things in the history of this forum. They're nothing special, he was nothing special. I'll never understand how this thread comes up every 3 months and it's full of responses like 'OMG they are amazing promos this guy was awesome he should have been pushed hard blahblahblah.'

I don't think ANYBODY said that in this thread...
I was just curious as to what led to his release. I always felt that his promos had great POTENTIAL but I never said the guy was awesome and should have been pushed hard and blahblahblah. I liked the promos and wished the character had succeeded. If Sean O'Haire posts somehow bother you then don't click on them.

My point is this thread comes up a lot, and I've never understood how a few crappy promos with some big words in them = him having loads of potential, or him being a great talent or him being a candidate for #1 Heel, or 'f****** awesome', IMO. All of those phrases were used in this thread.

It's cool man. I didn't mean to get defensive and I'm sorry if I came across this way.
It just seems like you don't care for these threads or Sean O'Haire (which is totally fine). I just don't understand why if you don't care for the man, gimmick or threads you still click on them.
Some people here liked Sean O'Haire and his gimmick. I understand you didn't and that's totally cool but don't ruin it for the rest of us.
ANYWAY, I totally forgot about him being in Here Comes The Pain. That game had one of the best rosters ever!!! Didn't O'Haire get arrested recently or something?

The guy had the size of Cena and Batista but could move like a creuiserwight. He was green in the ring but had potential to improve. His character had a ton of potential as this dark character and a more realistic deadman gimmick as the "Devil's Advocate." Throw in his unique look and he had the tools to become one of the top guys in the company. Sadly a combo of his bad attitude plus unfairly being punished for Piper's idiotic statements led to his downfall in the WWE.

Never understood where they were planning to go with him when I saw those promos. I wish he would have stuck around as i loved him in the ring. And ill say something that I always wanted to say. The WWE missed out GREATLY by splitting up the Natural Born Thrillers. They were great in WCW and the few guys that WWE actually brought over from WCW (Palumbo, O'Haire, Jindrak, Stamboli and Stasiak) were used horribly in the WWE and I always hated that.

Sean lived in my town for a while post-WWE. I used to see him from time to time in the gym & would speak with him occasionally. I knew that he was originally from SC, so I had been a fan since his NBT days & had been following his MMA career. I resisted the urge to mark the hell out, but he was very approachable.
What I remember is that the WWE had big plans for him when they paired him with Piper, but when Piper left, they didn't really have anything left for him. I remember that he was still tearing through lower card guys on Velocity up until his release, so I'm inclined to believe him.

The NBT were one of the best things WCW had going before its demise. But we all know McMahon wasn't to keen on making WCW guys a big deal in his company (well there had been a few). It just seemed like the gimmick fit that they were giving him at the time, and that he had opportunity to do big things. Sadly, it never happened.

o'haire was THE MAN.
he had the look. the guy was badass-like someone else said, he was capable of the strength of batista, but had speed and agility of a cruiserweight.
IMO, he was just misused by wwe. he had a ppv match with rikishi i remember that. then he was sent to squash newcomers on velocity.
LAST i heard of him in wwe, he was doing dark matches with a train...ugh.
sucks, but thats how the cookie crumbles. im just pissed cause i REALLY wanted a devils advocate o'haire figure lmao
