Eddie Murphy
That’s right, a current and active trend moving quickly through the Twitterverse going by the “RIP Eddie Murphy” phrase is apparently trying to catch the same bottled lightning that Jon Bon Jovi and the aforementioned Soulja Boy provided. Now, it’s clear what started out as a joke as become a playful, albeit morbid trend.
According to the gossip kings of the web, Murphy is alive and well. Surprisingly, the collective known as “TMZ” indicates a site called MediaFetcher.com is responsible for all of these “RIP” hoaxes. Granted, a quick search for further information finds there are other hoaxes related to the MediaFetcher keyword, but TMZ’ post is one of the first to outright implicate the site.

Also Taylor Swift passed away earlier today.
It's pretty much a new person on twitter everyday. It's like when Jeff Goldblum would die in some accident every year.

There was one with Will Smith last year too. Some even went as far as to make up news stories about it online. Said he fell off a mountain while filming a movie.

I had a student just try to convince me that Ted Danson died of a heart attack this morning. Very random choice? I was surprised that a high school student knew who he was let alone trying to convince everyone that he died.

Too bad the Soulja Boy one wasn't real.... Don't you have to be a celebrity to have a rumored celebrity death?

I think it's sad how some people have nothing better to do than spread rumours that people are dead.
I also don't understand how they'd even think to start one. Is it that they just think "Ah maht thtaht an internetz rumour dat Eddie Murphy iz dayd har har har".
