I love the comics, but this show is just so hokey, it's unbelievable. I tried to stick by it for so long, but it's just not very well written. There are so many plot holes and things that are just way too convenient. They rely way too heavily on foreshadowing. Why, oh why, did they fire the writing team from season one? They obviously knew how to write for TV better than these guys. I don't think I'll continue watching after this season.

No one was fired. Kirkman, who is the one and only writer for the comic, is still executive producer, and a writer for the show. Just sayin' is all.

pipe....
What I can't get is why Rick 'the hero' let his best friend carry on hurting for so long, knowing that he was cracking up in the enviroment, knowing that this leader BS would be affecting his psyche. He didn't try to stop him falling that far which would have been the human thing to do. He'll go after drug dealers who very well would have killed Rick, gave mercy to an outsider who shot to kill him, Glenn and Hershel and confessed to being at least witness to his group's atrocities. But he won't try and play into keeping Shane on side, hell what am I saying he won't even keep tabs on his son much, why his brother. All 3 Grimers played into Shane losing it.
Shane was the leader, he had Lori, was doing right by Carl and he was doing his best to keep this group safe and they were, Rick rolls up and the group has spiralled since then, Rick does things that put the group at huge risk and they all blindly follow him. And I can't believe nobody else in the group would think from time to time that they have backed the wrong horse.
I'm hoping that some split from it after Shane's death is revealed - something akin to that intro in the last ep because under Rick they will die. Would be cool to have two different groups to follow in season 3.

Sorry, I guess I should have used the phrase "let go" rather than fired, as that was how I had it explained to me. I guess I always just assumed that meant canned. Anyway, I'm well aware that Kirkman is executive producer (not only because I get inundated with commercials for The Talking Dead twice a commercial break during the show), but it seems to me that he may be part of the problem, with an inability to properly write for TV. Not everybody can do both, they're completely different media. I understand that things can't and shouldn't happen as quickly as they do in the comics, but did we need six episodes of everyone sitting around with their thumb up their ass waiting for Sophia to turn up? I know more episodes = more money, but in terms of story-telling, this season just got redundant and drawn out.

Would be cool to have two different groups to follow in season 3. ...uhhh, were you sleeping during the "18 Miles Out" episode? After their first physical altercation, Rick SAVES SHANE'S LIFE, then Rick gave Shane his gun back... then he turns a blind eye, and let's him remain with the group. Let's not forget after the camp attack in season one, Dale catches Shane raising his gun to Rick as he was contemplating shooting him. Shane is also at fault with his dilemma with Lori - yes, she slept with him under the assumption Rick was dead. However, after Rick found his family and returned to them, Shane couldn't let go. The writing staff at the time were freelance, and they found work. No one was fired. Kirkman, who is the one and only writer for the comic, is still executive producer, and a writer for the show. He left him in the first instance, even that must have hit Shane hard. And all that trauma for to give Randell a repreive. Shane had faults and was a 'hothead' but his best friend let the issues that fueled those consume him, he didn't try to include and repair the broken parts of Shane's POV. His whimsical sense of decency and self-importance is diabolical.

His whimsical sense of decency and self-importance is diabolical. He left him for all of a few minutes. Those "issues" that fueled Shane, weren't even known to Rick until LORI - not Shane, told him. Shane did it to himself, and from where I sit Rick gave Shane plenty of chances. Shane was the antagonist, and was written as such. Rick is the "good guy", the protagonist. Just because you empathize with Shane, doesn't change what their roles were.

Can't wait for Season 2 to hit Blu Ray, I hope they don't do like they did with season 1 and put out bare bones first then later on release a special edition with bonus features. I do know I want that one that AMC had up that had the spoiler in the description.

I'm steering clear of the spoiler. Whatever it is, I want to be completely surprised. Same here. Its so damn tempting, but its only 4 more days.
