With Wrestlemania coming up, Rock vs Cena argubaly the biggest match ever and the CM Punk/Chris Brown twitter beef, the WWE has become way more public again and all over media. See now you have this era's Rock/Austin in Cena/Punk, which a year ago it was just really Cena in terms of mainstream exposure. I see 2012 being huge for the WWE and it will start becoming the "cool" thing again overtaking UFC in popularity again.

All of the recent mainstream tie-ins have been to help hype Wrestlemania, just like they do every year. Whether or not WWE stays relevant after Wrestlemania.....well, we'll just have to wait and see.

Possibly, let's not get ahead of ourselves. They have to keep up this momentum year 'round, and deliver a product of consistent, phenomenal quality like back in the heyday of the Attitude Era.
I'm noticing alot more of my friends who haven't been wrestling fans become aware of certain superstars, and alot more media coverage offered up- but it's not booming like it was back in the Austin/McMahon era, or even the HHH/Rock era. Let's give it time and hope the booking and building of star power can keep up with mainstream exposure given.

Nope.
Judging from my own network alone, I really havent seen a spike in interest from anyone who already isnt associated with wrestling. I can think of one person who is interested in the Rock/Cena feud and thats about it.
Even all of the girls on facebook commenting on Chris Brown apparently know nothing of the Punk feud.
Outside of my personnal connections, Its hard to say I notice anything worth clinging to. I chalk up all the media appearances as Wrestlemania Hype. TMZ likes the occasional WWE story.
Nothing has happened at all that warrents me to tell people "I liked wrestling before it was cool/mainstream", so I guess not.

It would be nice, but I don't think it's even remotely there yet.

Sadly, no. Until someone steps up and challenges WWE again and forces them to deliver a near Wrestlemania excitement level year round, (or WWE doing that for another reason) then WWE will stay at the same level it's been for the past few years.

Not in today's day and age.....there was just this spark that happened during the height of Austin 3:16, The Rock and The NWO.....everything felt like it was on fire and almost 'real'. You still had legends like Hogan, Undertaker, Bret, Austin and Flair going strong. The whole anti-establishment storyline with Mchmahon/Austin was still exciting, fresh and new. You never really knew just what was going to happen in the monday night wars or who was gonna jump ship to either side, or which billionaire was gonna use his power to do the next crazy thing to take over in the ratings........and oh yeah, you also had his little place called ECW......
Fast forward to 2012. Everything has just become retread after retread. WWE is the only ship in the ocean and just about everyone has jumped off. I mean, when you really look at it as great as CM Punk is, his whole storyline right now is just Austin/Mcmahon with a new skin. Add that to the countless other 'evil owner vs rebel storyline thats been done since the attitude era.....all of the ideas have seemed to dry up and Vince is either just too tired and content with his monopoly or doesn't care about pushing any envelopes anymore. Right now he's safe with PG as far as his sales and his wife's polictics and that's prob how's it's gonna stay for a while.....
Take a look at every commercial break. All we get is commercials for 3 disk dvd sets about 'the good ol' days' or the old greats like Austin or HBK, The Rock etc.....when did you constantly see commercials for videos of Andre/Hogan or Piper's pit back during The Attitude era? I don;t remember too many. At least not like nowadays.....things were so hype then that everything was only focused on the product of that very second.....they didn't need to keep waxing nostalgia the way WWE constanlty does now. Today it seems like we're just waiting and praying for that spark and trying to figure out just how to create it again. In the late nineties it just 'happened' and everyone ate it up.

PG
Not a good enough quality product in the last 5 to 8 years.

This is nothing compared to the hype and excitement for Hogan/Andre for WM3. Rock/Cena is a jobber match compared to Hogan/Andre. You had to be there to understand.

No chance..... PGNot a good enough quality product in the last 5 to 8 years. WCW was PG and beat WWE in the ratings for 84 weeks straight, it has nothing to do with the PG rating. I wish people would stop saying that like it's some how relevant. And have this, straight from Chris Jericho's mouth: “I don’t care about PG-13 or Attitude Era. If you’re a great performer, you can make it work no matter what it is. And I never really cared because I might have gone 5% into the Attitude Era or 5% into the overly PG era but I pretty much just did my thing and made it work with whatever was given to me by the boss of the company. That’s a copout if people say ‘well, I don’t like it because it’s PG-13 or I can’t work within the PG-13 system’. That’s BS. It doesn’t matter. If you’re a good guitar player, you can play Van Halen or Georg Jensen jazz. It’s just an excuse.”If that isn't enough for you, WWE was PG-14 in 2007, which is the absolute worst year in WWE history imo. I'm not saying I think WWE is going to take over MMA in popularity but the WWE seems to be climbing and 2011 was the best year they have had in a decade imo. 5 years from now we could be seeing the benefit, audience, ratings, and main stream popularity wise, of what they are doing right now.

Judging from what I saw the other night at Smackdown (I was there) this arena in Rockford never, and I mean never sells out, and they did this time. Smackdown was here a couple of years ago and there were tons of empty seats, so I would say it has come back from what it was. I did notice more little little kids this time around. The PG move must be working for the WWE and they made it a point to point this out with running a long WWE is PG ad during one of the breaks.

I honestly don't ever care if Wrestling goes mainstream again. I really don't. People are wishing and hoping and praying for this next "boom period" to come like the attitude era did and sweep the nation. Why isn't it enough that wrestling fans enjoy wrestling? I watch WWE weekly, and for the most part enjoy what I see. I get my fill of indy wrestling as well from PWG, Chikara, and CZW. That's enough for me. I know another boom would be great for the business and all, but as long as folks are watching and enjoying wrestling, the business isn't going anywhere.
Some people who miss the old days so much would have others believe that WWE or pro wrestling as a whole is on it's death bed. In reality, they just don't enjoy it anymore. WWE has millions and millions of fans who continue to support the product and enjoy it fully. Until that goes away, I couldn't care any less about going mainstream again.

Don't get me wrong, I love watching some of the fights. But ever since UFC became so popular, there's been this huge group of douchebag fans come along that get on my nerves more than any pro wrestling fan I've ever heard. I'd love WWE to be as popular as it was during the Attitude Era and I think they could do it as long as they did everything smart like they did with the Punk vs Bryan match on Smackdown. Great match with a great finish that kept both champions looking strong without winning or losing.

I don't think it will, its human nature to like to watch fights/combat, much like the gladiators in Rome, people love watching two guys go at it. Until a sport comes around to make it seem less appealing like mma did with boxing, the UFC isn't going anywhere bit up.
