'Selfie'. Hard to avoid these days, but hearing it in conversation is unpleasant for me. Though let's be honest, the act of the selfie has improved the Internet by at least a half a point. This is about the word only. The culture of it is a different story.

"Feel good movie" or "Coming of age film".
Up-and-coming.

I saw Civil War again with an old friend yesterday, and forgot how much I hate how he uses the word 'virtually' when he could say 'basically' or 'essentially'. It's overkill - and he doesn't realise how much he says it.
He also says 'prostrate' cancer instead of 'prostate' cancer.
I don't pull him up on it, because...well...he's 55 and set in his ways.

I really hate when people change the sound of a word ending in 'er' or 'of' and replace it with 'a'. For example, cuppa.

Poop
Or my ex-girlfriend calling her computer her "pooter."
I also hate when people find out I'm a bass player and do the whole "slappa da bass!" So annoying, and for the longest time I literally had no idea what that was a reference to, until I saw that stupid "I love You Man" movie. Oh, I also hate Paul Rudd.

People who are too busy to say a few more syllables in words. Like "rom-com" for romance/comedy. And the way my brother says "Q-town" instead of Quakertown. It's one freaking extra syllable. You're almost 50. Who are you trying to impress?

'Peter Covell' and 'Samir Utin'.
Co-workers whose very names conjure annoyance, irritation, frustration and repulsion.

The phrase 'social justice warrior' (SJW).
Horrendous connotations.

The phrase 'social justice warrior' (SJW). Horrendous connotations. I have a friend who has 'Social Justice' tattooed on her foot. I tell her I'm against it to try and upset her. I have been called both a sexist and an SJW online, which has left me confused. I can't be both, can I? (Basically, you can be for equality without being a jerk about it - or you can be an SJW?)

Same train of though, how connotations of words can conjure images of disgust...
'Fan fiction' and 'bae'.
Deplorable stuff.
