I had an old 1997 Slammy Awards Coliseum Video VHS forever.
I loved that show.

I used to see the 96 and 97 Slammy Awards Coliseum Videos too at my old video store that I got tapes from, but I never rented them. I probably should have to have recorded them or at least checked them out.
I remember my dad bought me a History of Wrestlemania 1 - 9 Coliseum Video. We had to order it from the local video store. It was like close to $50 too, for a 3 hour tape. Now, you can buy 3 disc dvd sets for $24.99 in stores, with close to 9 hours of action. It's still weird how those Coliseum Videos were so expensive back then to buy.

^ What's even stranger is I believe for the more earlier WWF Coliseum Video tapes, there was an option in the order form to choose from VHS or Beta, if you can believe it. And if memory serves, I believe they were the same price either way. Can you believe that??
What were they, like $44.95 per tape back in the day?? Can you imagine paying that much for a Beta tape?? Wow...And I'm sure someone actually did.

Man, I would love to see a some Beta versions though of Coliseum Videos. I wonder if there would be any demand for them now as a collector of vintage wrestling though. Just because I can't see too many people have a Beta player. It would have to be display only. But the vhs tapes are good enough to do that.

Just put in "WWF Beta" and they should come up. I'm actually surprised how many were made, certainly more than I originally thought, that's for sure.

The Best of SNME, the first manager tape, Supertape 1, and Hulkamania 3 are my favorites! However, I used to really enjoy the Coliseum Video Exclusives that they used to have on the events. Good memories! Good Topic!

Good memories! Good Topic! I actually thought Hulkamania 3 was really put together nicely. Clearly it just was hyping everything for Hogan vs. Andre on it, but for those who missed WWF Superstars, you got to see all the Piper's Pit shows that gave us that Hogan vs. Andre match at WM 3. Though, Hulkamania 2 is my personal favourite. If anyone hasn't ever seen that Hogan tape, you should probably get it somehow and check it out. It is a solid packed 2 hour tape of some pretty good Hogan matches against Savage, Bundy, Orndorff, Beefcake, Kamala and others.

I once found Royal Rumble 1994, Summerslam 1993 and Royal Rumble 1989 at Goodwill for a dollar each. They all play really well!

Wow...And I'm sure someone actually did. Well, Beta was a superior format to VHS. Much better resolution, less noise, etc. It was still used as the broadcast standard up until the recent HD switch. There were two main reasons that VHS won the format war at the consumer level. One was VHS had more tape in their larger case, which, even though it degraded quality, the consumer wanted the ability to record longer on each tape. The second was Sony did not allow the porn industry to produce films on Beta. Strange, but true.

Here's a little test I would like some of the members on this forum to try and find out.
I defy you guys to find ANY WWF Coliseum Video which does NOT feature someone who is now dead. If you can find one single WWF Coliseum Video tape where you do not see or hear someone who is now dead, I'll be VERY impressed. I do not think it's possible though....

I don't think it's possible at all! If one is around where all the wrestlers are still alive, then there's a good chance the referee or commentators are dead. But I still doubt anyone could find one where every wrestler is still alive on it.

Check and see if Gorilla Monsoon is doing commentary, or if Joey Marella is the referee for any of them. If so, then there is dead people on those tapes!

Well, then there's no chance. Just wrestlers alone, there will only be a few.

It's impossible Husker, I believe that one person would be dead at least on all those old WWF Coliseum Video releases.
Did anyone else love watching the end of the tapes to see what videos were coming out next?? I remember they hyped a Junkyard Dog video, and Royal Rumble 88, but neither were made.

Your right Jam I remember them hyping one called Battle royal but it was not the original Battle Royal from the early 80's that I seen. It looked like clip's from 87/88 never found it though.

And not just Gorilla on commentary, there's also Lord Alfred Hayes, and former AWA announcer Rod Trongard who also had a brief stint in the WWF. And another referee that could be shown would be Dick Woehrle, who recently passed away....

Do any matches stand out as 'awesome' matches that were on Coliseum Videos??
I can think of one match that I always loved and I felt should have been released on dvd. It was the Randy Savage vs. Ricky Steamboat match from Best of the WWF Vol. 9. If you never seen it, check it out!
